thank you for joining us i'm tony perkins >> i'm shawn yancy. today, hillary clinton gracious's conceded. she asked supporters to give trump a chance while keeping up the fight >> ronica cleary starts us off with the election that shook many people >> you did an amazing job i loved watching the coverage and it never really ended. it was very late. i want to ask the viewers did you guys stay up until the announceme it was 2:30 in the morning when fox news declared trump the president elect of the united states. soon after mr. trump took the stage in new york city to deliver his acceptance speech. he opened by saying we owe secretary clinton gratitude for her service to our country and spoke a message of unit to the american people. >> now it's time for america to bind the wounds of division >> we have to get together.

and independents across this nation. i say it is time for us to come together as one united people. . i pledge to every citizen of our land that i will be president for all americans and this is so important to me. >> donald trump early this morning to concede the race, she did not speak at the javits center as expected. instead, she spoke around 11:30 to give a heart, fell concession speech and share her feelings about the president elect. >> i know how disappointed you feel because i feel it too. so do tens of millions of americans who invested their

this is painful and it will be for a long time. we must accept the results and look to the future. donald trump is going to be our president. we owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it. about his efforts to have a smooth transition of power. he invited donald trump to the white house to have to begin the transition. republicans want two more years of control in the house, democrats did manage to chip away at the gop's 247 seat majority. take a look at the numbers, democrats held on to 191 seats in the house.

needed to take control. right now, there are still nine undecided seats there. the gop also remain control of the senate. republicans kept the 51 seats needed to remain control. two seats remain undecided. now we turn to the local races, first the closely watched congressional race in virginia. freshman republican barbara comstock was reelected to virginia's 10th district over lou anne bennett with vote. meanwhile in maryland, chris van holland wins maryland's senate seat. and in the district, dc voters approved the statehood referendum with 80% of the vote count. statehood was last on the dc ballot in 1982 when it was approved by a slimmer margin of 53% to 47%, but it is not a done deal. congress still has to approve

dc leaders say they plan to press case to donald trump and the republican congress in january when it comes to statehood. former mayor vincent gray is heading back to the dc city council. he'll represent ward 7. democrat robert white earned a seat on the dc city council with 38% of the vote. to election backlash, a protest broke out on the campus of american university. many students were upset over the results of the election, some got several small american flags, others weren't happy with the way their fellow students were protesting. fox 5 matt ackland is live with the latest on this. matt? >> reporter: some of the students gathered today to protest. a lot of them said listen, we were not happy about the results of last night's election. but when things got tense is when some students decided to start lighting american flags on

at all. it got quite aggressive. i want you to take a look at this picture. this was given by a student who was there to see it all. we're told there were some in the crowd who had served in the military, then they rushed in when they saw the flags being burned. they didn't like that at all. following that, students remained in the center of campus. chanting antitrump words and debating a few students wearing make america great >> that's when some of the students from the black lives matter group pulled out american flags and started lighting them on fire, my dad is in the military. as upset zoom about the results and the election, the image of the flag burning brought me to tears. >> reporter: so many showing passion, displeasure, frustration. one african-american student stood at the top of the stairs today and said, i don't feel safe in this country.

it can have a bad side. >> future first lady milania trump called for an end to online bull bullying. his message reviewing 98ed with many parents worried about their children being bullied. experts say they're steps you can take right now to help your child feel safe. fox's laura >> reporter: use of the internet and other electronic devices grows, bullies have gone online launching their attacks around the clock >> cyber bullying is pretty prevalent. we find with kids and adolescents, it's pretty big. lots of kids don't know how to socialize appropriate and online be platforms just give them another way to interact where they're not monitored by parent or teachers >> the centers for disease

16% of adolescent the having bullied through their cell phone or internet. it can leave kids feeling anxious and depressed. and parents feeling helpless. experts say keeping the lines of communication open can help >> i think parents need to have general conversations with their kids about being able to speak up for themselves, for some kids, that will come naturally. they will be able to assert themselves and tell a bully, stop, i don't like the when you talk to me tore other kids they may need more of an advocate >> if you find out your child is a victim. the first steps parents should take is collect evidence, having access to your child's social media as well as taking screen shots of their phones. >> parents have to be open with their kids. we need access to your phone so that we can evidence to support the fact that you are being bullied. we want our kids to be able to

they want but more important to keep them safe >> telling your child you need to take action and see what they've posted online may cause additional anxiety. psychologists say while it may be comfortable for you both, you need to ride it out. >> it's normal for kids to freak out when they're confronted with the possibility of their parents going to administration or going to another parent to let that person know about bullying that is happening. that's a natural anxiety that might come along with not wanting to confront a situation. not every kid will freak out. some kids may be relieved their parents are stepping up for them >> researchers are trying to get more evidence on cyber bullying and its effects, but this is difficult may may not always capture social media trend. laura engle, fox news. we didn't take you live to the white house right now. is that what we're doing here? ok. we got a live image of the white

some showers were healthy. part of the issue is we had some warm air ahead of the front and cold air and cooked up this gorgeous rainbow. you don't see a rainbow from above often. do you? unless you're in a plane or if you're in skyfox and the other thing you notice in this beautiful picture in addition to the rainbow and that rain shaft is how beautiful the foliage looks. >> that is often, i'll have to share that on facebook later. we're starting to see the clear out and the skies will be a lot less numerous, they're moving away. i love this picture we got today from mark story, look how gorgeous those pictures are with the washington monument in the background here. gorgeous. as a matter of fact, get your foliage pictures while you can. because we are at peak all across the area here and those leaves will be dropping pretty rapidly, especially when we bring in pretty breezy wind tomorrow then another batch of

saturday. to the foliage. and not much left of showers, mainly north and east of the city or south, you can see the tell tale rotation, we know we got an area of low pressure moving on through more substantial showers towards philadelphia and atlantic city. we're getting kind of the back edge. 1 or two of them we're able to produce pea size hail in calvert as well as st. mary's county. there's our area of low pressure. it's going to continue to move bring in a little bit more of a chill as they chase the clouds out of town and we are going to head for the 30's and 40's with a noticeable breeze. what is ahead for thursday? it's a sunny and breezy day. it will be dry. we only he did ended up getting less than two tens of an inch of rain. since september 1st we only had about four and a half inches, little bit more. tomorrow will be breezy and dry,

those wind may gust up to over 20 miles an hour, just a breeze. 65 friday. mild day and that's good news because friday is also veterans day, i'll show you that forecast in a moment in a little bit more detail. meanwhile tonight as we head now down through the low 50's, we're going to go see those temperatures dropping off into the 30's and 40's later tonight. and a noticeable breeze out of the north and northwest, right now about ten to 15 miles an hour, but that could get a little bit stronger during the day tomorrow. overnight, we head for the 40's maybe a couple of 30's like we see here foreman manassas. noticeably chilly at the bus stop tomorrow morning, 38 to 47 degrees. and if you're driving to work, grab your sunglasses. after school, 57 to 63 for kids at the bus stop, so not coyote as chilly but the breeze will make it feel a little cooler than that 62 degrees. we're at forecastly 59 for the high temperature in

high pressure dominating the weather so it's dry and again we mentioned thursday we'll be on the breezy side. for veterans day, maybe some of you have the day off. it is friday. we'll have a lot of sunshine, a bit warmer day at 65 degrees. but even on friday, we'll notice the breeze around from time to time. by the weekend, another big area of high pressure builds in, this got some behind it and it will kick you want breezes friday into saturday as this front comes on of cold air but the coldest air we've seen so far this season and can't to say that as we go through the winter. that means for saturday, especially, our daytime highs only in the 40's and 50's. at night. 20's and 30s. the other night i stepped outside to head on home from fox 5 and i did notice for the first time i kind of think i want to make sure i know where my gloves are. i think that's a good thing to keep in mind. saturday is chilly. 52 in the city. 40's in the suburbs, warmer on sunday. 61 degrees.
