overnight with a decision from the court of appeals, fox 5's alexandria limon live at dulles airport this morning with the latest. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, and that decision from the 9th circuit court of appeals came early and they denied the doj's request to immediately reinstate the president's travel ban. they filed the appeal yesterday that immediately halted the travel ban. the appeals said it is the sovereign prerogative of the president to exclude aliens from entering the country and also that the federal judge was overreaching but again, the court of appeals documented the doj's request. the order from that federal judge in seattle stays in place. here's what that means. people from those seven prominently muslim countries who have the appropriate documentation like visas can come to u.s. for now. now, the court is asking both sides to file more

good to have you with us this morning, it is sunday, and it is fox 5 news sunday. the trump administration appealing a temporary order restraining the ban nationwide, alexandria limon is live at dulles international airport this morning with more on this story, good morning, alex. >> reporter: that decision from the 9th district court of appeals came early and they denied the doj's request to immediately reinstate president trump's travel ban. now, the department of justice had filed the appeal yesterday to a decision made by
federal judge in washington that immediately halted the travel ban. the appeal said that the president has sovereign prerogative to decide which areas could and could not enter and also that that ruling was judicial overreach. but the court of appeals denied the doj's request. that means that at the order from the federal judge in seattle stays in place and so for the time being, travelers from those seven prominently muslim countries who have the appropriate documentation like visas can travel to the united states. the court is asking both sides to file more arguments on monday. yesterday, president trump was tweeting about the issue. in one of his tweets he said this, quote, because the ban was lifted by a judge many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into the country. a terrible decision. end quotes. we have been speaking to

changes to some policies, some major, some minor, most controversial sweeping changes to immigration. the president making a series of consequence policy changes. the federal appeals court set aside blocking the travel ban. the court deny that day appeal. we're looking at a case where this could advance to the u.s. supreme court which appears more and more likely if the justin department continues on the path it has. this happened overnight. the president fired the acting attorney general of the united states during the week because that attorney general would not go ahead and do this, it's pretty clear he does have people
has this administration made its point even though they do continue to lose these appeals >> that's an interesting question. i think a lot of this is done and executed to prove a point and to make it a campaign promise. because many argue that this really was not sufficient to combat the issues that donald trump was attempting to combat, the temporary ban, it's 90 days and certainly made a statement. but i believe that the reaction we're seeing to this number one by one including people who had green card was a mistake and was hugely controversial and backfired and then number two, the roll-out of this executive order was is it disaster truss. and identified by the boom administration as countries of concern, no matter what. there would have been negative backlash to this because people are upset about it. don't like donald trump feel this is unamerican, but had
been rolled out differently. had you identified the similarities and connections to the obama administration, highlighted the temporary nature of this, i don't know that we would have seen backlash the way we are today and the divisiveness, fact that alexandria limon is still at the dulles airport reporting on it >> we'll get to alex in a moment. a couple things, i'm not so sure that in regards to the way this weekend gone, this administration has not already achieved one of its goals. which was a message to the larger world, that they are going to be more watchful of the immigration process in this country and that they are going to target certain portions of this planet in regards to this kind of, you wering, vetting they've talk about. but, you know, also, the flip side of that, some of this tweeting and -- lord knows, we've talked ad nauseam about candidate donald trump's tweeting and president trump's tweeting. there's a difference how to in the last

have professional experience in public schools. she didn't attend public schools, her children didn't, how can she be a person and an advocate for public schools. she brings up support for charred schools and voucher programs, but i don't know if i think it's a fair criticism >> even if all those things were true. some of these questions she was asked, she just either wasn't aware of them or had answers about, you know, going to schools with guns like that, and at the face of it. people snickered. a lot of this problem with he's no questions not going through is, you know, the problems we were talking about with the transition. a lot of these nominees did not get the documentation in they needed. some of the financial disclosures, some of the ethical disclosures. before the inauguration, some of the people on the hill were saying maybe he should delay some hearings because of the fact we don't have this material. they went ahead and now in some

>> i can certainly talk about how this would affect the catholic church. and the catholic church is governed by u.s. law but also canon law and states first of all that i, a priest can't run for public office. it also states that we should not be active in pillow parties. and that's something that was observed before the johnson amendment, so i believe a repeal of the johnson amendment would not drastically alter what happens from catholic pulpits across the country >> there's great history in this country of people of faith, who are involved in the political process. one of the giant figures was a father and you look at the catholic church in regards to the right to life movement. it would be a misunknowner to say that churches are not involved in politics. they're heavily involved. the bones of this would change what the churches do now
