thunderstorms back out to the west. usually burning off. 50's and a few lower 60, it won't be quite as delightful as it was yesterday but still really nice for august. there's the cloud cover coming cross this morning, again, once the sun gets higher in the sky, i think that breaks up. so we end up with good amounts of sunshine but the clouds will return for later on this afternoon. i think we'll be mostly cloudy put by 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 out there. again not quite as sunny, you see those big thunderstorms way out to the west? that's what's causing the blow-off cloudiness from there, usually when we get that type of situation, it does dissipate, especially like worry under high pressure, 84 for today, 85 in if so, generally speaking, lower to middle 80's, yesterday was only 81.

good today, too, just maybe quite as much sunshine as what we had. work week weather and all of that good stuff is coming up. whether you wat to see it or not. ♪ ♪. we're going to begin with developing news, a string of violent crimes here in dc >> police are investigating multiple robberies in the area, they have responded to at least type of in the last few hours that we know of across the dc area, krysten leon is live in northwest at police headquarters with the donate, kristen? >> reporter: good morning, annie and tom, keep in mind would know if these robberies are connected or related in this case. but what we can tell you like you guys mentioned is that dc police definitely had their work cut out for them overnight. take a closer look at this map here of the latest robbery, happening out of northeast dc. this happened a little after 1:30 this morning on the 13 hon block of corbin

northeast, police say two men around 17, 18 years old are were wears dark face masks or ban dan that as, one of them had a white tank top and jeans. another robbery happening overnight on the 300 block of alabama avenue west coast. police didn't give a suspect description of this case. and staying in southeast on the 200 block of new come street. looking for a man around 5'5". last seen wearing blue pants an white shirt, it happened a little before 1:00 this morning. safety tips to keep in mind according to dc police, if you have happen to be on the street, if possible, do not walk alone late at night. they recommend walking in groups in this case. stay in well-lit areas as much as possible and try to avoid dark lit areas and alleys as well if you happen to be walking late at night. if you have any information on any of these investigations, you're asked to call dc employees. for now,

headquarters, krysten leon, fox 5 local news. >> thank you. prince george's county, this morning, a homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead on a sidewalk in mount ra near in the 3400 block of rhode island avenue. he had trauma to his face and chest and looked to be in about his 20's. they do not know his name yet. investigators are still trying to figure out who killed him and why he was killed. developing in the district, lows are still investigating yesterday's early morning crash that killed one person and left another injured. it happened shortly after 3:00 saturday along florida avenue in northeast. dc fire and ems say two cars collided then slammed no a his gas station. the impact damaged the gas station as well as forcing it to close as a precaution. >> right now, we have one victim at the hospital. and one victim

the public and anybody that was in and around this area, 3:00 last night. if they saw anything, a vehicle traveling, obviously, dark-colored acura, please give us a call >> investigators say speed may have been a factor in this crash. tracking metro this morning, transit police still looking for a man accused of taking pictures's women's skirts. a woman reported that while she was riding up an escalator at the columbia heights metro windshield's she felt someone's hand, this incident was caught on surveillance video, the footage is bobby shown of the suspect committing other up skirting offense, if you have information, metro lease give them a call. montgomery county a driver plowed into an he willerly did couple in a church parking lot in bethesda. both in stable condition, but police are trying to figure out what caused the crash, evan lambert has the donates. >> reporter: here's what the scene

accident happened after 4:30 this afternoon, you can see the car has very visible damage to its windshield. one of the victims may have been dragged a distance down the driveway. the crash happening in the driveway at river road union tearian universal congregation in bethesda, police are investigating what led the driver to hit those two, 86-year-olds, it appears to be a tragic accident. police tell us that the driver is investigating, they mentioned that charging are pending. in montgomery county, evan lambert, fox 5 local news. time now, 7:07, a traffic end to a search for three mis missing marines. they're in recovery mode, currently in hope that they will be found

culpeper, you're there. manassas 59. winchester is 59, gaithersburg, the rest of us in the 60's and still at 70 here in town be we did get briefly down into the upper 60's but the clouds have helped to keep us up just a little bit. pittsburgh is 60, binghamton 51, raleigh, 68, lexington kentucky 62, we're seeing high pressure scooting to the east. we're starting to get these southerly's winds taking back over, that will warm temperatures up just a little bit and also starts bringing in the humidity levels up just a little bit. thunderstorms big thunderstorms too, severe weather down in oklahoma last night. maybe tornados down there and that extends up into the midwest, we're getting cloud cover that's kind of blowing off showers and thunderstorms to the west of us. so that's why this morning we're waking up to a few clouds out there. it's not a big deal. the sun gets higher in the high, starts to burn this off and we have pretty good stability

else, westminster pretty cold at 61, frederick 61. baltimore is 63. boy the water in annapolis 69 and gorgeous in leonardtown this morning at 63. due points in some spots are still in the upper 50's. couple of spots came up into the lower 60's. i think for the most part today, these due points will stay pretty much where they are right now, anywhere between 57 degrees and say, 61 or 62 which is not bad. keeps the relative humidity fairly low and comfortable all day. clouds are coming across, these clouds originated way back out to the west with big thunderstorms last night in the southern plains. there was potential severe weather -- there was severe weather down through parts of oklahoma, potential tornadic activity last night. this is where they are. nice line headed down toward southeastern sections of oklahoma and arkansas, potentially some were

the robberies that took place within a span of a few hours there. now, the latest robbery happened in northeast dc. a little after 1:30 this morning on the 1300 block of corbin place, to men around 17 to 18 were wearing dark face masks or bandanas during the time. one of them had a white tank top and jeans, another robbery taking place, but this time on the southeast side, the 1300 block of alabama avenue. police didn't give a suspect description here. and staying in southeast on the 200 block of new come street, police are looking for a man around 5'5" last seen wearing blue pants an white shirt, this robbery happened a little before 1:00 this morning. now, keep in mind a couple of safety tips here, especial if you're on the street late at night according to dc police. employees say to make sure to not walk alone in this case. to walk in a group if you happen to be out during that hour. beus

little more interesting from your perspective, president trump is obviously still frustrated about jeff sessions no the recusing himself. do you think we would not see this convening of the grand jury? how significant if he was still part of this would that be in some stopping something like this happening >> i don't know why we got focused on that it's almost renter. >> maybe that's why he's focusing on it because it's irrelevant >> rosenstein picked mueller to run the investigation. and under department of justice regulations you have to kind of stay away. sessions had to recuse himself and i think it will move forward in the way it typically does >> robert mueller took this job to and a half months ago and the fact though that a grand jury is empanelled should not surprise anybody. everybody knows he's been hiring these prosecutors. left and right in this city. a lot of these are top financial guys that look at banks transactions from

fact he's been in this job to and a half month, what should that tell people about where they're at with this right now? does it necessarily mean they have information and they have evidence after two and a half months or are they looking for that? >> i think they're just getting started. you do have fbi agents who have mode on these sorts of issues - for awhile. they were brought in when mueller took this position, they hit the ground running but they had a head start as well >> we heard seclo, the white house said they're in favor of anything that accelerates the process. they seem to be saying nothing to see here this is normal. is the press overreacting to the significance of the grand jury? >> no >> put it in perspective for how significant and serious it is to take this step. >> well, i mean, it is expected. you know, when you bring in

special prosecutor. they're got empanel a grand jury or begin working with a grand jury so they can gather this information. this is standard practice for prosecutors. it's a big deal because it makes it clear it could be heading towards criminal prosecution, and the other piece is that by moving to a grand jury, bringing up a grand jury in washington, dc, that signals there's a focus now on activities that were happening in washington as opposed to other places. >> i want to ask you about something going on in the hill. while all this intrigger was going on about mueller's grand jury, a lot of activity, bipartisan competition now to protect robert mueller, there's one bill by senator chris koons which would give mueller the ability if he is fired to go to a three, judge panel and appeal that. and on the front end lindsey graham is proposing legislation along with cory booker to stop this firing happen in the first place before this gets going. we have

people on the conservative side this is an overreach on congress's part you're dealing with presidential powers and this could wind up in the supreme court. very much, the court has sided with executive branch on these things. are we touching in areas that could wind up before the supreme court? because congress is getting involved in presidential powers and we know with neil gorsuch fundamentally it's still in place >> it's unlikely they would take congress to court in part because the republicans are leading the senate and the chairs of those committees are republican, out be -- trump would be for itting his own party and as you mentioned, nixon, v united states for example, frequently the supreme court decided with congress and ability of investigators to get information that they think might be relevant. >> glen ivy thank four being with us. we appreciate your input and inso it. let's move to international

issue. let's talk about north korea. the united nations voted unanimously to impose new sanctions on north korea after pyongyang's repeated missile launching. >> this is the most stringent set of sanctions on any country in a generation. the sang sanctions will cut deep and will give the north korean leadership a activate oft deprivation they've chosen to inflict on the north korean people. >> cross the river, president trump is on a working vacation in new jersey and tweeted saying the u.n. resolution is the single largest economic sanctions package ever on north korea over one billion dollars in costs to north korea. so there's been movement on this hopefully in a positive way. but so far nothing the u.n. or any of the other diplomatses seem to have done from behaving the way it has >> you have to wonder if sanctions can work in

♪ ♪ ♪. ♪ ♪ ♪. welcome back to fox 5 local news on the hill. the economy is strong and job growth continues to rise, the largest unemployment numbers show this, they put the job list rate at 4.3%, a 16 year low, employers added 209,000 jobs. the dow jones industrial average closed at a record high. over 22,000 as stocks gained across the board. with us to take a deeper look at the economy and what is driving growth anna swan san staff writers at the "washington post." you wrote an interesting piece, the job market just recovered from the recession, men and white people haven't. and i think that's an interesting observation to make especially because it's undoubted'sly true that trump received a great amount of support from

seeing something like this, will they put the blame on president trump? is this just a symptom of how the economy is bouncing back? and the jobs and industries they're in paint a better picture for us with that. >> the research that you're talking about was really interesting. it comes from the institution hamilton project and basically they're looking at how jobs recovered since the recession. and their research shows that since november, 2007, the month before the recession started, now last month, we're at that same level, before the recession hit. basically we're back to the same employment level before the recession about a decade ago but the gains haven't been even in that time. as you mentioned, men haven't recovered as much as women have. white people are still lagging a little bit behind other racial grown-ups.

where less educated people are now back to where they were before the recession >> you look at where the president's base is in this country, this week he had another campaign style rally in west virginia. at what point do that economic data and people's opinion of this administration start to link up and cause real problems for him? his base is where they tend to spend all their attention right now. >> yes, i think you're bringing up a good point. because i mean, this was obviously a very strong message of president trump's campaign, that you know, these some people had not recovered fully from the recession, and that he was got try to do something about it by reviving manufacturing for example, but this research also points to the challenge of doing that. because you know, you still have, as we said, you know, would it people not back to the levels that they were before the

point out that the unemployment rate for whites is still much lower than for african-americans? >> i expect it comes from hope from this to cut regulations and taxes, and if that doesn't happen, will were he see a drop? >> i definitely think there is an effect of the expectation of a tax cuts especially corporate tax cuts of infrastructure spending helped to boost confidence. the far bigger effect is the momentum of the economy. monthly job gains basically on par with last year. we have seen this economic expansion is the third on record. so the economy just has a lot of steam moving forward, and although growing somewhat slowly it continues to benefit a lot of people >> thank you for being with us, we appreciate your insight on this important topic. . talk about transportation this mni
