7:00 am
((russell- it's seven o'clock on october 24th. th >>russell: 7:00 on october 24. the start of early volting -- voting for many of you. >>laura: and wrong turn. a car crashes into a church while the pastor was preaching. the split second decision that forced the driver off the road and into the building. >>russell: no thanks. retailers deciding not to open for shopping on thanksgiving. why they say it's not worth it. welcome to the 7:00 hour of >>laura: and i'm laura moody. good morning. that ahead and more. but first, we need the forecast from dave. >>dave: beautiful, beautiful, beautiful outside. we are at 61 degrees and i got this beautiful tampa net cam shot for you with the northeast wind around three miles per hour. a couple of clouds mixed in. the u.s.f. marine science camera, obviously we're going to be a little bit warmer since those water temperatures are still up. north winds at five but in general, today, like yesterday, mostly sunny skies, maybe a
7:01 am
temperatures get back to the lower 80s. good morning, vanessa. >>vanessa: good morning. this is a motorcyclist involved crash. it's going to be affecting particularly southbound livings ton at the intersection with bearss and we have some lane reductions as you might suspect with this crash. we don't know the extent of injuries. a single lane is passing and as i mentioned, most of the delays and most of the concern is going to be more extremely backed up heading in towards the intersection with bearss avenue. we could see a whole lot of backup in the area so i know it's a little out of the way but drivers, you might save some time by making it all the way to nebraska and taking that in the southbound direction instead. you could see very, very substantial as far as the backups we're seeing. we're also keeping an eye on memorial highway where we have a crash that's reported and it appears to be affecting the southbound direction.
7:02 am
on that. i can't see how many lanes are blocked. but we have some delays reported in the area of 275 where the crash is reported. backing up beyond the area of the courtney campbell causeway towards hillsborough so it might be worth extra time. >>russell: we begin with a look at the state of the race. donald trump down in just about every poll. he's aiming for a quick turn around with just over two weeks to go before election day. campaign is looking beyond just the white house. doug is following the race from washington. >> good morning. hillary clinton is going to be in new hampshire today. donald trump will continue his tour of florida and it's tough to envision a scenario where trump wins the white house come november 8 without picking up florida. >> if we win on november 8, we are going to fix our rigged
7:03 am
system. >> early voting begins in florida today. he's once again raling at a system that he says is rigged. campaign manager is blaming the media for amplifying his troubles. >> we're not giving up. we know we can win this and we are certainly not exceeding to the same chattering class that's been wrong about donald trump for about a year and a half. >> trump spent part of the weekend laying out a new platform in pennsy and hillary clnt on dismissed a protestor. >> some people are sore losers. we just got to keep going. >> and that seems to be her campaign's take on trump himself with clinton so confident now that talk is talking about doing it with a wide margin of victory. >> we're running a coordinated
7:04 am
gubernatorial, house and senate candidates. but this is not over yet. >> and the other concern for the trump campaign, early voting. millions of people will cast ballots before election day which kind of locks in current levels of support. shayla reaves has more now on turnout today in florida. >>reporter: good morning to you. right now we're here in hillsborough county where any moment now, those doors sul service center. i'm here with craig, the supervisor of elections for hillsborough county. you've said just this election cycle but you see it any presidential year, the numbers are up. how many new registered voters are you seeing? >> we've registered close to 150,000 new voters here in hillsborough county. >> if we take a look at the overall numbers, more than 840,000 registered voters in hillsborough county and the trend is toward early voting.
7:05 am
>> we did. we did. people are taking advantage of early voting. 2012 election, 62% of our voters voted prior to election day. this last primary election, 72% of people voted prior to election day. we've already gotten back about 90,000 ballots. we're going to do 12 hours a day at 16 locations in hillsborough county. >> if someone is vote early, there are some things that they can do to make sure that process runs smoothly. being prepared is a big part of that. what are some things they need to know? >> first off, read your sample ballots so you're prepared. bring photo and signature identification, a driver's license is the easiest one. if you don't have a driver's license, go on our website or on channel 13's website and see the list of acceptable identification. but we just want to encourage people. if there's any issue, people

provisional ballot that will then be looked at by the canvassing board. >> anything you want to add before we let you go? i know your workers are ready to get going, right? >> come out now. get out before the crunch. it will start getting busy as we head towards the second week. i would encourage people to get out now g. to our website. we have a stoplight system on there. you can see if there's a wait time at any early voting sites. >> thank you so much, craig, for your underway. we've now reached the 7:00 hour. that means if you're in hillsborough county, you can head to the polls and vote early if you're registeed from 7:00 a.m. today to 7:00 tonight. early voting runs through november 6 and i'll be back a little bit later this morning with another live report and again, we'll make sure you have all those details you need to know before you go. back to you. >>laura: we know you will. thank you.
7:07 am
expected to vote before election day. both campaigns are urging support he weres to vote early. but here's a big difference between early voting this year and eight years ago. this year in florida, a record 3.1 million people have requested ballots. democrats have requested almost as many as republicans. 39% to 40%. compare that to 2008. republicans dominated early voting, leading democrats by hillary clinton. she's also seeing positive voting signs in north carolina and in maine. however, trump is showing strength in three other big states. that's ohio, iowa and georgia. now, hillary clinton holds a slim lead over donald trump in florida. that's according to a new poll. 46 for her, 43 for him. clinton led that same poll by two percentage points in early september. and donald trump is holding a

ampitheatre. it's one of several stops in florida before the election. if you can't make it to trump's rally, you can find out what he had to say later by heading to and clicking on the politics section. there you can also keep tabs on hillary clinton's campaign. polls, election results and more. >>laura: we expect jury selection to start today in polk county for rapper kevin gates. he faces a charge of battery for this incident at rumors nightclub in lakeland last year. video shows a fan reaching out and touching his shorts while he was performing and gates then kicked the fan. fan says that the kick to her chest sent her to the hospital. gates claims it was self defense. it is 7:08 now and new develops this morning in a hit and run crash that killed 61-year-old lynn taylor. >>russell: sarasota detectives have a description of the vehicle that hit her on gulf gate drive.
7:09 am
chrysler p.t. cruiser, has a sunroof and it may have damage to the front right side on the hood, headlight, windshield or mirror. if you know anything about this, you're asked to call fhp. >>laura: you may have seen tow truck drivers driving together along i-75 yesterday. this was a procession in honor of toy mcguire. he was hit and killed while assisting law enforcement on the interstate two weeks ago. >> many impaired drivers on the road. it's heartbreaking for the entire community over and over again and 100% preventible. >>laura: gregory miller is accused of hitting and killing mcguire. >>russell: possible sink hole near dixon road. hole is eight feet deep, 10 feet wide. the road is still open and no homes are in any danger. officials are keeping an eye on it in case it gets any bigger.
7:10 am
even begin to describe her. we're going to introduce you to a 4-year-old girl that can speak seven languages. she taught herself to do that. >>russell: and the return to black friday. more and more retailers closing thanksgiving day. they would rather wait to open their doors. >>dave: and 7:10, i have 61 degrees the temperature outside in the tampa area. not bad, although you go further north and it's like, oh, boy. and believe it or not, those numbers are warmer than yesterday. a couple of clouds squeezing through this morning, but it will be another mostly sunny day and a smidge warmer than yesterday with a high around 81 degrees. tomorrow even warmer with a high
7:11 am
7:12 am
it's not uncommon for autistic kids to flap their hands. and so when i saw that, that was completely disqualifying. i'm a republican, but this election is so much bigger than party. my son max can't live in trump world. so i'm crossing party lines and voting for hillary. i don't always agree with her, but she's reasonable. and she's smart. she can work with people to solve problems.
7:13 am
hillary clinton and i approve this message. >>dave: that is pretty. look at the brookdale bayshore camera showing us an absolutely
7:14 am
john hopkins all children's hospital camera, equally as beautiful. sun is up later and later, though. i can't wait to turn the clocks back. notice a couple of clouds mixed in on the tampa net cam but it's another beautiful start to the day. and i'm looking at some temperatures thinking, wow. 46 in crystal river. grab those jackets, citrus county, hernando county. you're at 49. 53 in leesburg. get toward the coast, a little warmer, 64 in 64 in st. petersburg and mainly mid to upper 50s as you go inland. lots of dry air in place. when you get that drier air, it cools off very, very quickly which is why as the sun is going down, you're like, oh, boy. it's getting cold quick. same thing happens on the other side. sun comes up and it warms up quickly thanks to drier air in place. i think we have no problem getting back into the lower 80s. and you look at some temperatures i just showed you and you're like, it's pretty chilly.
7:15 am
than yesterday and for a lot of us, we may not have been up at 7:00 yesterday morning so look at watch you'll arcs arcadia, you're eight degrees warmer than yesterday morning at this time. a little bit of a northeasterly wind. there's a smidge of moisture in the mid levels of the atmosphere and that's providing a few clouds first thing this morning but no big deal. we're not anticipating any rain and with that northeast wind and the dew points in check, it looks like we're going to bring lower 80s for today and over the course of the next several days, just look at these colors and the scale. right now you see how dry the air is. by later this week and we'll put this map into motion for you, we'll start to get a little bit more moisture streaming in from the south. not a ton but just enough where i think the dew point numbers go back in the 60s later this week. so moderate humidity, maybe by
7:16 am
it's going to be a pretty quiet week overall. on wednesday, there is a chance of a sprinkle but no significant rain. our temperatures today, 81 degrees. enjoy it. it will be a fworjous one. tonight we're back into the lower 50s north, lower 60s in the tampa area. probably in the mid 60s right at the beaches and then 83 for a high temperature tomorrow which, oh, by the way, that's our normal high for this time of year is around 83 degrees. nort 10 to 15 knots. water temperature is down five degrees from friday. it's down to 75 and a high tide at 9:45 this morning. pretty quiet the next seven days. i like that. temperatures are going to run 83, 84 pretty much all week long. all these numbers are good. good, good, good. >>vanessa: they definitely look good. thanks. and right now we want to switch gears and get to manatee county.
7:17 am
area. we have a pair of crashes shutting down 62 in two different areas so the first one is going to be reported at saffold road. they have a medical chopper that's responding to the scene to take somebody to the hospital. the second crash we're recseeins had he john corbin road. we don't have the extent but there are some injuries reported here so definitely ab area to avoid for sure. it looks like the best work around. it will bring you into the intersection with u.s. 301. so we'll update you on that. meantime, we have the serious delays still here after that motorcyclist involved crash, involving livingston avenue. delays from bearss avenue from the accident is reported all the way back to the overpass with 275. that will give you an idea how extensive the backup is. definitely avoid the area.
7:18 am
time. look at your majors right now. doesn't look too bad, too unusual for what we see this time of morning. be safe out there. >>laura: turkey day tug of war between family time and shopping. >>russell: a lot of retail stores began opening on thanksgiving years ago. some aren't doing it anymore. >>reporter: the mall of mashg, crossco, home depot, a few places you won't be shopping on thanksgiving. this dpi are happy to keep the tradition of scoring a deal on turkey day alive. >> one out of three people we surveyed are going to be spending more than $200 per person which is pretty substantial compared to 2015. >>reporter: most americans don't plan to shop on thanksgiving anyway. 54% dislike stores remaining open on thanksgiving. 60% say they won't step foot in
7:19 am
so why are stores going dark on thanks giving? for one, the track record for sales on the day has been lack luster. last year shopper track reported in-store sales tumbled by 12 1/2% as online shopping rose. if you do need to get your turkey day shop on, most big box and department stores will be open. in the case of macy's, it will not only be open but it will be opening earlier than usual. hold off until black friday for electronics, though. >> you're going to see upwards from 38% to 40% off so definitely wait to buy computers, tv's, laptops, all of the above because the time between black friday and cyber monday is when you're going to see the best deals. >> i'm jerry willis, fox business. >>laura: holy chaos. a car crashes into a florida
7:20 am
preaching. we'll tell you what made the driver lose control. >>russell: it was an impressive win for the bucs on the road. all around team effort. game balls for everybody. five players in particular. >>laura: also ahead, halloween goodwill. look at that. yes. from costumes to decoration, alcides segui will be having all of that for us coming up.

z2562z zy6z port tampa bay has now become florida's largest and most diversified. which helps explain why it is one of dana young's top priorities. generating over 15 billion for the regional economy, and 80 thousand local jobs. dana young is working to continue that success, by attracting high waged jobs for families who need them and fighting a bureaucracy that too often gets in the way. dana young for the florida senate.

was she expecting to find ther perfect designer boots at such an amazing price? no. but that's the beauty of a store full of surprises. you never know what you're gonna find, but you know you're gonna love it. ((laura welcome back to good day tampa bay. >>laura: and welcome back. 7:23 now. deadly tour bus accident in california is under investigation. >>russell: group was returning from a casino when the bus driver lost control, killed 13 people, injured dozens more. kelly wright has the latest. >>reporter: more than a dozen people are dead and at least 30 others are injured after a tour bus on a trip to a casino crashes into the back of a semi
7:24 am
california. near palm springs, early sunday morning, authorities say the bus was travelling at a high rate of speed compared to the slow moving traffic. >> i will tell you the speed of the bus was so significant that when it hit the back of the big rig, the trailer, the trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus. so you can see that it was a substantial impact. >>reporter: police believe all the dead were sitting in the front of the driver. with so many people injured, paramedics were treating many at the scene. patients were taken to three hospitals with one handling five intensive care cases. >> our team was designated to take care of this sort of an evaluation from the very beginning it was called a mass casualty incident. >>reporter: most people were asleep at the time and may not have been wearing seat belts,
7:25 am
throughout the vehicle. doctors say they had unusual injuries. >> seemed as though most of the victims were unrestrained and attend facial trauma. >>reporter: authorities are hoping they can find a data recorder in the wreckage of the bus but it's unlikely there is one since it is an older bus. >>russell: and eight people are recovering from a bizarre crash in miami. a driver was another vehicle when it crashed into a church. the impact of the car hitting the wall sent debris falling into the congregation. about 300 people were listing the pastor. at least one person had to be taken to the hospital. >>laura: and an emergency landing in little rock, arkansas did not go over well with actors. they both went on twit to her express their frustration with american airlines. the flight from nashville to los angeles had to land because of smoke in the cockpit.
7:26 am
dallas. fortunately, no one was hurt. >>russell: most 4-year-olds are just starting to learn the alphabet. not this kid from russia. she already knows how to speak seven languages. english, spanish, chinese among them. she's become pretty famous social media and listen to this. her dad says she taught herself by just playing games. >>dave: wow. >>laura: cute. sassy. >>dave: adorable. that's absolutely 61 degrees outside. beautiful sunshine, sun will be up in about 10, 11 minutes. dew points are running nice and dry at 52 with a northeast wind at three miles per hour. expecting another beautiful day, this time i think we're going to squeeze it back to the lower 80s so because we only hit the upper 70s for saturday, for sunday, today about 81 degrees, tomorrow 83 and then for wednesday, we're looking to have temperatures up around 84.
7:27 am
earlier we showed you a pair of crashes. that's how fhp had it reported but apparently there was a location confusion so now they've consolidated into a single crash and it will be at the intersection of state road 52 so lanes are blocked here. this is a serious injury crash. medical helicopter is responding here and drivers should continue to avoid this area. meantime, we want to update this for you. i showed you a crash rep we had some lane blocks reported. it actually looks clear. we haven't seen increases in delays or anything like that. drivers should expect the normal travel conditions we've been seeing over the area. live look, sky fox moving on. that was the livingston crash at bearss avenue so that's still blocked off with the one lane passing southbound direction so continue to avoid that area as well. >>laura: thank you.
7:28 am
a famous lady. >>russell: and a family looking for help after a weekend tragedy. >>reporter: that accused drunk driver charged with killing two people. we'll update his condition. see what jen is working on. >>jennifer: if you're an animal lover like myself, you would do anything to help out a furry friend. and sometimes something goes wrong and you don't have the resource health resource center in hillsborough county steps in to help. we'll tell you a story about a sweet dog named baby doll and the adorable couple that would

robert kearney: i fought for my country in kosovo and iraq, the father of three girls. i can't stand hearing donald trump call women pigs, dogs, and bimbos...and i sure don't want my daughters hearing it. i want my girls to grow up proud and strong, in a nation where they're valued and respected. donald trump's america is not the country i fought for. so, i'm voting for hillary clinton. hillary clinton: i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. listerine? kills 99%

ung's top priorities. generating over 15 billion for the regional economy, and 80 thousand local jobs. dana young is working to continue that success, by attracting high waged jobs for families who need them and fighting a bureaucracy that too often gets in the way. dana young for the florida senate.
7:32 am
(laura- welcome back to good day tampa >>laura: welcome back. the time is 7:31 and the suspected drunk driver is in the hospital after a crash on the veterans expressway. >>russell: the driver is accused of killing two men. their families are trying to cope with a sudden loss and dan is at tampa general where the driver has been taken. any update on that person's condition? >>reporter: good morning. anwar is the suspect we're talking about. he's in serious condition here at tampa general. right now he's charged with d.u.i. manslaughter and vehicular homicide. this is cell phone video shot, obviously tough to watch. he rear ended this car, causing it to crash into a barricade and go up in flames. the crash happened on the veterans expressway early saturday morning about 2:30. troopers say he was speeding when he crashed into the back of that pontiac which did, in fact,
7:33 am
both the driver and his passenger, they were killed. there is a go fund me page set up by lanzo's family to bring his body home to the family in puerto rico but once again, asqua is in serious condition. we have a link set up on for the go fund me page if you want to check out. >>russell: we'll talk later. thank you. we have this at 7:33. there was involving a motorcyclist on the gandy bridge last night. all the eastbound lanes in tampa shut down for a time. that meant detours over the howard frankland took a few hours to reopen the gandy. we've not been told the name of the victim just yet. >>laura: we like to call this baby doll's miracle. a local dog with a huge tumor and a couple of humans who only wanted what was best for their best friend. jennifer epstein is live for us at the hillsborough pet resource
7:34 am
compassion and a story that really touched you in particular, right, jen? >>reporter: and i think we're all animal lovers and we can all relate to this situation. can you imagine if your dog, your cat got so sick, something needed to be done but you didn't have the resources to help he or that's what happened to an elderly couple here in the bay area. we had a dog they loved so much. her name is baby doll. about 13 pounds, had a tumor the size of a large a half a pound or so. and it was slowing her down and they knew they needed to do something to help but they didn't have the money to make that happen. they brought her to the pet resource center and they stepped in to help and the story has a good ending. i'm going to bring in the pet that made all of this happen. i mentioned the situation. talk to me about what you thought when you first saw this little dodge with a huge tumor.
7:35 am
it was quite a large tumor for such a small dog and also open and infected so it definitely needed to come off. >>jennifer: talk to me about the tumor itself. it could have been a preventible issue. >> it was a mammary gland dog. if they're spayed before the first heat cycle, it will drastically reduce their chances of breast cancer. >>jennifer: $5,000 surgery. at the point where they were going to surrender baby doll because they couldn't do anything to help? >> they did surrender her to us and we were able to do the surgery and get the tumor off of her. >>jennifer: so two weeks ago, she came in. you were the vet who performed the surgery. talk to me about that process and where she should be now. >> so she had the surgery about two weeks ago so the sutures are ready to come off and she'll be
7:36 am
removed and returned to her family. baby doll is a sweet girl and they love her so much. >>jennifer: stay with us. they'll be coming in soon to talk to the doctor again, get the sutures off and we'll meet baby doll as well. a happy understanding. >>laura: the picture of the dog with the tumor is disturbing. >>jennifer: can we have to go. talk to you again in the next hour. >>russell: 7:36 right now. election day two weeks from tomorrow. early voting starts today for a lot of people. sumter, pasco and highlands counties are the only exceptions. starts a little later. let's get to fox news bret this morning about -- to discuss the state of things and where we are. how are you doing? >>reporter: good morning. countdown is on. >>russell: i know.
7:37 am
and hillary clinton seems to be solidifying her lead over donald trump, right? >> i think that's right. if you look at average of polls, there's a new poll out today that she's up 12. there is -- there are a couple of polls that fall into a much tighter race and one of them is investor business daily. that is a poll that does, you know, by our standards has live interviewers and cell phone and land line, meets all the criteria. seems like it's the only one there where donald trump is up two but investor daily has a good polling operation. so it's one to look at as we get closer here, but really, russell, most of the polls show
7:38 am
for hillary clinton and that means she's going to focus on down ballot races as well. >>russell: let's talk about down ballot. i think it may surprise a lot of people, we got a senate race in this state that's turned out to be pretty close. we have patrick murphy and marco rubio going at it head to head. if you look at the latest polling, some peer tied. it's a tight race. >>reporter: very tight. it could be the race that in the u.s. senate. it comes down to really every single race. you have high profile surrogates, basically the biggest, president obama going after senator rubio and campaigning for patrick murphy and i think you're going to see a flow of people down there on the democratic side doing the same thing. that could influence things. now, rubio has, as you know, a
7:39 am
points, that race turns and also controlled the u.s. senate concern. >>russell: if we believe that -- and i know that i'm going out there but i'm going to say it. if we believe that donald trump is hurting the down ballot republicans, could this be what's happened to marco rubio? >>reporter: it's possible. listen to candidates who have essentially come out and said they would endorse him because he's the pulled back from him, it's kind of an in between. same thing is happening with joe heck in nevada so it's a tough line to walk, but each one is running their own race. >>russell: all right. there will be a break in about two weeks. no. two weeks and a day and then the day after and the day after that, but then somewhere -- >>reporter: eye i've got the calendar. marking it down. >>russell: and then you get to
7:40 am
take care. i'll see you soon. >>dave: bucs get a day off after an impressive win over in san francisco. after falling behind 14-0, bucs blew out the 49ers the rest of the way. final score 34-17. jameis winston throwing three touchdown passes, two of them to mike evans. evans has been tremendous so far this season. today, coming to the call and catching the ball at the highest point, going for the ball in the air. i think mike has just really improved his work habits in practice. mike was like he's on a mission out there. >> we put in a lot of work, you know, and hard work pays off and you see it coming. it was one scrumble that we worked in practice one day. even though we were working in a different part of the field, but we worked it and he's starting
7:41 am
i just have to give him the ball. when we work on something, it will show up in a game. >>dave: and the bucs defense also came up big, forcing three turnovers. they had four sacks on 49ers quarterback kaepernick and pretty much shut them down after the first quarter. several other players deserved game balls as well. rogers had the second straight 100 yard game filling in for doug martin. rogers ran for 154 yards on 26 carries, peyton barber ran for 84 yards on 12 carries, including his first nfl touchdown. and rookie kicker roberto aguayo, he's been drawing a lot of criticism this season for his misses. the next three games, by the way, are at home. bucs play the raiders on sunday and then the falcons on thursday night, november 3.
7:42 am
13th. the cubs and the indians start the world series tomorrow night over in cleveland. it's been nearly 70 years since either of them won it all. tickets are selling for almost $4,000 for games one and two. wow. in cleveland, $7,000 for games three, four and five. i'll tell you what, folks. why don't you just sit here and watch it right here on fox okay? save yourself seven grand. 7:42. look outside and see the beautiful start we have. may need a jacket early on but you won't this afternoon. seven-day forecast in a few seven-day forecast in a few minutes.

y256qy yy6y i moved on her like a [bleep]. you can do anything. grab them by the [bleep] we have to make sure that donald wins this election. no we don't. marco rubio stands by trump and failed to show up for florida. bringing people together and reaching across the aisle to get things done. protecting social security. and building an economy that works for all of us. i'm patrick murphy and i approved this message
