The wooden Canadian Northern Railway bridge collapsed March 4, 1912 when wheels of rear truck, the sleeper "Kipling" on south bound train to Regina, Jumped the track at the switch and swung wide, hitting a pillar of the bridge. The first span and the sleeper crashed to the ice injuring 12 passengers.

Mt. Assiniboine, on the border of Banff National Park and Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park, is one of the higher peaks in the Canadian Rockies, 3618m. It is named for the Assiniboine or Stoney Tribe which originally came from the Lake of the Woods region of the Canadian Shield and, pushed westward by settlement in the east, settled in the foothills of the Rockies.
