This investigation is an extension of the work of Wrigley and Hovorka in fire control to the problem of the thesis. Quantities peculiar to the underwater problem are defined, examined, and illustrated when appropriate. Using these quantities and those from the \"above-water\" problem that apply, the problem is formulated. Two possible methods of solution are discussed and compared
