Big Sophie's "Bones & All" Review (BS"B&A"R)
It was kind of shit. Don't come into this expecting gore or a captivating 80s atmosphere, because it delivers on neither; EVERY SINGLE EATING PEOPLE SCENE IS COMPLETELY OMITTED. MOST OF THE TIME YOU DON'T EVEN GET REMAINS, MOST OF THE TIME YOU DONT EVEN GET A POLICE REPORT. I'm about to go way harder here than I did in my goodreads review because there's no Camille DeAngelis here that I have to tiptoe around
The characters are pretty starkly bland. Maren, what? She hates herself and she eats people. GUESS FOR HOW LONG. FOR THE WHOLE BOOK THATS HOW LONG
Lee's alright I don't really care for him. Later in the book he says something to the effect of "someone better gobble me up" and I was kind of like "yeah" LMFAOOOO
There's a twist that's extremely lukewarm. It's like JK rowling levels of "and they're actually related so it's a surprise!" plot twist. It literally loses hold of your interest the SECOND after you finish reading the sentence
If I had to summarize in a sentence; roadtrip across the most boring part of the United States with possibly the two most boring felons in the entire history of the world, and one of them is 16 with an inner monologue suspiciously reminiscent of what I believe the inner monologue of a 40 year old YA novelist would sound like
If you're expecting likeable characters, horrific violence, or atmosphere, read something else
