At the early morning hours of December 14, 2022, Arvada Police was dispatched to a "shots fired" call at the Village West Apartments. Upon arriving, one officer accessed the situation and quickly saw this was an
active structure fire. Along with a fellow officer, the two began banging on
doors and evacuating the residents. The call was updated to a structure fire
and Arvada Fire quickly extinguished the blaze. While there was one fatality, the actions of the Arvada Police and Arvada Fire saved dozens of lives.
