What's new in Episode 169 STUFF • You -can- remove permanent marker from your HDTV/monitor with a dry erase pen. This may be the coolest viewer tip ever! • Keyboard shortcuts: if you don't know 'em, you're wasting time reaching for the mouse when you could user clicks on the keyboard instead! At least learn the basic two key combinations for Undo, Redo, Cut, Paste, Copy, End Program and Print! Microsoft has an excellent List of the keyboard shortcuts that are available in Windows XP, our friends at PCMag have a list of Key XP shortcuts. OS X users, start with Apple's list OS X keyboard shortcuts, then spend some time with the Rixstep "repository for every keyboard secret in OS X. Bonus: here are links to keyboard shortcuts for Internet Explorer and Firefox! • BTW: DL.TV users are 50/50 split between IE and Firefox. 20% of the DLTV Crew runs OS X. Who knew? • Got a CD that skips? We've got two ways to fix it: Toothpaste, a soft cloth and elbow grease, or drop $40 on a skipDR. Like a slow router with a 10Mbps Ethernet connection, whether or not you have WEP on your Router, and the traffic from other devices on your network. • The EPA changed the way it estimates MPG for cars/trucks: most cars drop around 10%, hybrid estimates are hit the heaviest. Starting for 2008 models there's a new schedule of testing for City/Highway MPG estimates. The fueleconomy.gov site has revised estimates for vehicles based on the new formula. As always, how you drive impacts your gas mileage immensely. • Free 1080p content to show off your new HDTV? That's gonna be tough, Thomas! Actually, duh, it's not: WMV HD Content Showcase and Quicktime Movie Trailers in HD • Nick needs help keeping his computer safe from thunderstorms... not lightning, mind you, but rain! Nick, you might buy a nifty rain sensor alarm, but we'd go with moving your notebook away from the window. You said a thunderstorm was rolling in when you wrote us, you might want to worry even more about lightning strikes.
