This collection is comprised of books, research articles, and commentaries written by Dr. Smith. The collection includes translations into English of foreign-language works that have not been available to scholars and genealogists who are not aware of their existence or are not able to translate the works included. It also includes previously unpublished and/or unavailable works by authors who have passed away, some of which have been supplemented or corrected with additional information obtaine...

Biography of Jan Jansen van Haarlem (c1585-c1640) and his son Anthony Jansen van Salee (1609-c1680). Jan Jansen, a Dutch merchant, became a corsair in Algiers and Sallee (Morocco) before becoming Governor of Oualida, Morocco under Sultan al-Walid. His son Anthony emigrated to New Amsterdam, arriving with his wife Grietje Reyniers, in 1630.

Jan Jansen van Haarlem, known as Morat Rais, was a state official in Safi, Morocoo in the 1630s. In Tome 3 of Henry de Castries work " Les sources inédites de l’Histoire du Maroc, Première series – Dynastie Saadienne (1530 – 1660)" appears the Journal of  Captain Antoine Gabiron, an envoy of France to the court of Morocco. This work is extracted from the de Castries work and concerns the Alcaïde Morat of Safi who may have been Jan Jansen van Haarlem.

Albert Matelena (1895-1978) was born in Manhattan and grew up in Trenton, NJ. He served in the 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division of the US Army and saw action in the St. Miheil and Meuse-Argonne offenses. He was wounded in October 1918 and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart in 2005.

This is the sentence passed on Saint John Southworth who was over 70 years old in London on 19 June 1654. He was the last Roman Catholic priest to suffer the punishment of being hanged, drawn and quartered in England.
