Atlas of Mexico by Decaen, published in 1862. Covers in board with gilded title. Collation: [1-3], 4-32, [33], 34-37 pages, [41] leaves of plates. Includes 45 colored lithographed views on 41 plates: 44 views of present-day Mexico City, plus one view of Veracruz, placed last. Views show individual buildings, roads, parks, vegetation, landscape, and Mexican figures featuring typical dress, including that of "Mexican Indians". Some views taken from hot-air balloons, creating bird's-eye view perspectives. Date of publication taken from cover. The two title pages within each feature different dates: "1855 y 1856" for the pages of descriptive text and "1855 y 1857" for the plates of views. Latter title page includes a lithographed illustration of a Mexican couple within a scene of abundant native vegetation, including cacti.
