I had done a couple of record label profiles for MRR by this point. I loved 625 Productions and every release Max had ever put out. He wanted to get a profile in for MRR. I think the folks at MRR were bugging him for one. So we joined forces and started compiling Max's thoughts on his discographies, re-issues and brand of fast core inspired hardcore. This interview came out in issue #237, which came out in February 2003. Unfortunately this issue is sold out of back issues so here is a PDF of...

This was a zine from Toronto. It published sometime in late 1982 or early 1983 because there was a review of the Bad Brains show on November 26, 1982. There was also a review of the Sanata' revenge show so that places the publication after December 4th, 1982. So there are reviews about Youth Youth Youth, and the Young Lions in here as they opened up shows. There is a review column which describes records in a big column as opposed to a capsule review. And there is a zine review section. All...

Born Dead Icons were an awesome hardcore band from Montreal that had a Tragedy style to their sound. Mike thorne, who was the zine co-ordinator at the time did an interview with the band when they came through San Francisco. This was printed in the January 201 issue (#212). The issue is not available as a back issue, so here is a PDF of the interview.

Civil Disobedience is a Toronto punk fanzine. I think members of Youth Youth Youth partially because there is a youth youth youth logo on the cover and partially because I remember the guitarist, Rob, told me about this zine. But I have never seen a copy until this one that Dhaibid James of Moondog Ballroom loaned me to scan. This issue came out in 1981, but I have no clue as to which month. I believe this is the second issue because it makes reference in an editorial to feedback they have...

Civil Disobedience is a Toronto punk fanzine. This might be an earlier issue, but it came out after August 6th, 1981 because there is a reference to a Globe and Mail article, which was the inspiration behind a piece on nuclear war. - This issue starts out with a collage on a Poison Girls song; - There is another collage piece critiquing gender roles as related to masculinity; - There is a review critiquing the film "D.O.A."; - There is a collage on TVs; - There is a collage for the...

This is the second issue of Confuzed fanzine. This issue features Brian Baker on the cover, but there is no Dag Nasty interview inside. The cover is on a colour stock which was cool to see. One of my favourite things about a zine is covering their own local news and Joel did that with his issues. Even today it provides of snapshot of things happening at that time. Shawn of Pillsbury Hardcore was interviewed at a show they played at Ildiko's in 1987. Reed and Phil from C.O.C. at their El Mocambo...

This is the first issue of Conufuzed fanzine, which was a punk fanzine around in the late 80's in Toronto. In reading through the interviews I can trace back that this first issue came out around the Summer of 1987. The first interview in the zine was with a straight edge band I met in Kent, Ohio called Youth Inc. The were from Cleveland and so I put on a show with them and the bands from Kent, Ohio called False Hope and Hyper as hell. Joel interviewed Youth Inc., which was a great name for a...

Gena Meldazy, who used to be a DJ on EXD, has pulled together a zine on inspirational women in the punk scene. The zine contains profiles and interviews of these women who got into punk, what they think of the male over representation in the scene, what they think about the advances in technology and whatnot. It is funny because I just read this in depth interview with Alice Bag that Martin Sorrendeguy did in MRR and I was still left wanting to know more about the background of the times. Das...

Gord and I were roomates at the time and we helped each other out on all sorts of projects related to the scene. I thought his label was doing great things and continues to this day. This is a PDF of the January 2015 issue of EXD fanzine. This issue features an interview with the School Jerks. The School Jerks are a hardcore band from Toronto with a strong early Black Flag influence in sound and art. The band has released a demo, three eps, a split tape, an LP and appeared on a few comps. This interview attempts to look back at the band with a focus on the LP as that is the band's most recent release. I find the band very inspiring.
