Rodney Lee, keyboardist for the energetic and daring Los Angeles based improvisational jazz group B Sharp, has taken time out to create a solo effort that infuses elements of Drum-n-Bass, Techno, Reggae, Funk and Jazz all with a unifying B-3 organ throughout. Innocent Bystander transcends the space time continuum from 70's funk to the new millennium by perfectly melding the computerized sounds of the new electronica with the raw human feel of old school soul and jazz. It's as if Sly Stone and Jimmy Smith were genetically combined with the Chemical Brothers!! The result is music for your mind and your ass. Innocent Bystander's eleven tracks were composed(except for the Sly Stone cover), arranged and produced by Lee whose eclectic appetite is fully explored on this project.
Lee's sound is honed from years of work on the road and in the studio with artists as diverse as pop artists Jody Watley, new comer Anastacia, Chante Moore, El DeBarge, Dakota Moon, jazz icons Freddie Hubbard and the Jazz Crusaders, and acid jazz group Solar System.
Prior to producing Innocent Bystander, Rodney made a name for himself in Los Angeles music circles as a remarkably versatile player. He can coax the blues or a '70's groove out of the Hammond B3, create sensitive portraits from an acoustic piano or program some of the wildest atmospheric effects imaginable. He is currently producing a number of projects including Jody Watley, Jeff Robinson, and Wade-3.
