In December 1930, musician Carl Kay embarked on an "Around the World" cruise aboard the Red Star Line's SS Belgenland as a member of Fischer's World's Fair Orchestra of Kalamazoo, Michigan. During the four month, 29,000 mile, sixty-city cruise, the group entertained guests (including Albert Einstein and Douglas Fairbanks) on board the ship and in hotels and ballrooms at stops along the way.
