Owing to the rise in the price of paper, the Executive Committee of the American Anti-Slavery Society decided to raise the subscription price of the National Anti-Slavery Standard. The Liberator must also raise its subscription price from $2.50 to $3.00. William Lloyd Garrison elaborates: "Besides, the Commonwealth is likely to draw off subscribers, and to prevent the getting of new ones, as it is offered for $2.00; though it must sink a good deal of money, and may not be published more than one year. If slavery were really abolished, I should care very little about the continuance of the Liberator or Standard, or the American Anti-Slavery Society, but, until emancipation come[s], I do hope these instrumentalities will remain in the field, as hitherto."
