Food is inherently linked to the human experience, whether it is through the impacts food can have on our health, meals shared between family and friends, or unique and diverse culinary techniques crafted by cultures from around the world. Sadly, many are deprived of foods that are healthy or have great variability due to what are known as food deserts or food apartheid. Urban farming and food justice initiatives such as Soul Fire Farm are currently working in the Capital region to remedy the harm done by unfair and unhealthy food systems. In this Podcast, Azuré Keahi of Soul Fire Farm discusses with McKenna Conners the importance of urban farming and Soul Fire Farm’s efforts towards greater food justice and food security.
