This short Op-Doc explores the injustices of Executive Order 9066, an order signed 80 years ago that forced Japanese and Japanese Americans into incarceration. The film reveals how compassion, music and creativity can help overcome the fears and anti-Asian-American bias still prevalent today. This is about remembering, and healing. When you think of beaver dams, you likely envision a rural setting with industrious, little critters hard at work. Fact is, wildlife is thriving right in the city of Seattle, beavers included! Magnuson Park is one spot you’ll see the environmental benefits that beavers provide. Not only do they create wetlands that form habitats for a wide variety of other animals, but beavers also have a knack for improving water quality. Occasionally, a beaver’s handiwork creates headaches for humans. As...

Seattle is home to a growing number of talented African American artists. For them, a continuing frustration has been the struggle to find galleries that will display the work of artists who’ve never shown before. That may be changing with the opening of ARTE NOIR, a new gallery and retail space in the Central District designed to showcase Black artists. Unlike other venues that focus on making money, ARTE NOIR is a nonprofit where all artists will receive 100 percent of the net proceeds on...
