I seen this episode when i was a kid, TV these days does not compare. This was my favorite one.

cleverly written episode

I downloaded and watched the 190.5MB MPEG4 file. Sound and vision were perfectly in sync on my set-up (BSPlayer Free under Windows 7).

Vicki Cummings is great as the evil wife. Pretty shocking the way the husband lets her get away with her continual nasty behavior. Personality-wise, she doesn't have the slightest redeeming feature. He would have been better off permanently vanishing to another state. :)

As is common with many shows of this era, I noticed a gaffe. Namely, where the doctor erroneously mentions the bag "from the 21st century" instead of the 25th century. I guess it was expensive to re-shoot scenes back then - the show must go on, regardless!

As for the story, it's the age-old scenario of desperate circumstances, where the protagonist is then rescued by some miraculous intervention. As always, when dealing with powers beyond our grasp, abuse that power and the consequences are often disastrous!

I do wonder if the wife ended up facing justice in a 25th century court and if that knocking on the door at the end really was just a concerned patient, or perhaps some law enforcement officer from the future?

The amount of smoking in this episode is startling by todays standards, particularly in a health-care environment. Now, where can I get my "Handy Andy" from? I should send a postcard on its way to Carlisle, PA. :)

A gem of a story from 1952 finding its way to 2011 with 25th century technology to save the planet.. Too bad the little black bag didn't include something really needed for his wife.. a lobotomy kit.

Yes Night Galley did this one but not as good, this one was great. If only that would happen. The writing an acting is the very best.

There was a classic sci-fi series in the UK in the 1960's called "Out of the Unknown". They did this story in 1969.

Very well acted. The wife was a bit of a harpy and wound up murdering out of greed. Her husband was way down on his heels until he got that new black bag. Imagine having in your hands something good that never ran out, always stayed full, eternally useful. But you have to use it for its intended purpose. Life is that way.

Not a bad little episode. However, the only reason that I downloaded it was because the description said that Joan Blondell was in it.
And, well, she's not. Not anywhere. I went to IMDB and it doesn't list her as having appeared in any Tales of Tomorrow episodes.

I don't know what "slugs and urchins" did with/to his download, but the program is perfectly IN synch.

The sound was way out of sync. I watched it anyway as this was a story I'd read while in middle school. It was adapted for the format and what was left out was the origin of the bag.

In the future, 500 yrs, a physicist grows tired of the idiots he's surrounded by and he quits school so he can work on a project he has in mind, a time machine. The dopes around him, doctors, lawyers, etc. all have their work made for them by technology. There's no challenges and they have regressed into morons, so he takes a job as janitor and spends his time on his machine.

Testing the machine he accidentally sends a doctors bag into the past. He meant to send it into the future, where he wants to go. That's when the story begins...

Yes, a magnificent eppy, and a great series. Joan Blondell's performance got me thinking though - it seems we just don't see characters like that anymore.

Whether playing a lady villain in Dragnet, a domineering wife a la the Twilight Zone's "Time Enough at Last" or the sharp tongued, money grubbing, boozy, spiteful spouse of a broken doctor, the harpies were the stock and trade of early television drama.

Apparently gone with of the cold-water flat, these Arthur Miller-esque roles seem to have disappeared in the late sixties.

A most excellant show!!!! I think back in the 1970's, Night Gallery did this as well. What a
shame that programs of this nature do not exist anymore.
