the americans with disabilities act of 1990 was enacted to protect all americans from discrimination on the basis of disability. i am proud that we are able to look back on the passage of the americans with disabilities act and recognize the importance of this legislation and the changes made in american society, but our work is not yet done. the law must continue to evolve. we must continue to revisit the ada and to examine whether it is accomplishing its purpose. where we find that it is not, we must be willing to make changes. one recent example occurred in the last congress when we passed the americans with disabilities act amendment of 2008, which was assigned by george w. bush and went into effect into the asinine. this restored the ada to congress as original intent by clarifying the coverage of anyone with disabilities and over rowling -- overruling a court decision that anyone with a disability would list their aid it simply because the treatment was available. we hope that this kind of determination and cooperation will continue into the future so that individuals with disa
