krv bs news correspondent cynthia bowers joins us from st. louis sglas the fast-moving systems rained down tornadoes causing massive damage across the southeastern part of missouri including metro st. louis. in the sunset hills suburb a tornado tore through at lunchtime taking out about 20 homes and businesses. >> it's incredible. absolutely inyesterday dibble. cars overturned, trucks overturned. it's kind of hard to believe such a thing could happen to our city. >> reporter: 20 people dove for cover inside a neighborhood pub, fortunately, there were only minor injuries. these were the worst new year's eve tornadoes here in more than 50 years, adding to the danger was the fact rare winter tornadoes sliced through colder air more quickly leaving little time for warning. people in the sunset hills community are waking up this morning feeling grateful. betty? >>> a stand-offer ended peacefully with the release of hostages and arrest of two gunmen. dozens of police officers surrounded the bank building. five hostages and a gunman came out first.
