joining me now is sue herrera, the coanchor of power lunch. it started when greece threw a monkey wrench into the deal. >> that's right and it's a fluid situation. things are changing hour by hour. what happened is the greek prime minister basically decided to take this big bailout package that includes a lot of austerity measures for the citizens of greece. he put it to a referendum vote that stunned european leaders. they were under the impression that they basically had a deal put in place. that's why the market rallied so much last week. this was a pretty stunning development that he was not going to basically decide this within his cabinet and he was going to put a vote to the people. the market is worried that that vote or package will be voted down. as a result of that that, once again put europe into a very large crisis and some say it would trigger a default in greece. that's why we have such a difficult situation on wall street today. there conflicting wire reports coming out that that vote will not take place. that's when we saw the

. >>> i'm sue herrera with your cnbc market wrap. another day in the doldrums. the dow jones industrials adding 17 points. the s&p 500 picking up 6. the nasdaq surged 29. no big headlines, really, out of europe, and mildly upbeat economic reports here at home giving us another quiet day. we did get word that italian prime minister monte will meet with italy's two largest political parties to talk about sacrifices needed to bring them back from the brink of economic collapse. here in the u.s., retail sales gained in october with auto sales looking particularly strong. and consumer spending accelerated, but at the expense of household savings. producer prices fell more than expected, especially on gasoline and food items. and northeast manufacturing is picking up a bit, reversing five straight months of declines. as for stocks, walmart sagged after profits came in slightly lower than expected, despite increasing sales. and dell is slumping after-hours on weaker-than-expected earnings delivered after the closing bell. that's it from cnbc, we are first in business w
