there is a traffic alert on san jose. two offramps on 280 will still closed following a major crash. at least seven vehicles along with a big rig. that crash happened in the evening commute backing up traffic for miles. the scene is clear right now. but caltrans crews are cleaning up and make beiing repairs. >>> new at 11:00. it's scare in the skies. within the past few hours, a wayward flight arrived at san francisco. what went wrong, how did the passengers react? the flight was diverted. the plight from tokyo to san francisco was diverted and made an emergency stop in alaska. >> reporter: those passengers had a lot of kudos for the delta pilots who were in control of this flight. they went through about half an hour of turbulence, and they heard one of the engines making noises that wasn't quite right. soon thereafter the captain came on and said they were making that emergency landing inial ca. passengers say the landing was as smooth as can be. the people on that plane nearly tripled the population. waiting isn't alwa

we are live now in san jose where two of those fired workers say they have nowhere to turn. f >> reporter: we're here at plaza in downtown san jose where tomorrow at noon, community groups will gather here to protest the department of homeland security's audits on businesses that they say are no better than raids. coworkers for about 8 years. a company that supplies food services to numerous businesses. both women say they lost their jobs after the department of homeland security conducted an audit of employees and discovered they were undocumented workers. they were given a deadline to clear up the paperwork. when it couldn't, they reluctantly fired both women. >> i'm thinking of my family and my life because no work, no insurance. >> i don't know what i can do because right now for me the door is just closed and i don't know what i do tomorrow. >> reporter: the two women both have families with children and are dealing with medical situations that require health insurance. the audit by homeland security's ice agency affects more than just these two workers. >> ice has audi

after getting expensive training from san jose. matt keller is in san jose with the details. matt? >> the hiring sign has been up for a while at the san jose police department but it is not is much the recruiting but the retaining of officers that has city leaders looking if a solution. it costs $170,000 to drain a recruit -- train a recruit but up to 40 who graduates five have left because of shrinking benefits. there are new plans to charge recruits if they leave to another department. they want a five year prorated retention plan making them pay 100 percent if they leave less than a year up to charging 25 percent if they leave if less than four years. the police union blames the city council. >> why pay that much money and they decide to leave after they get the training? >> creating servants out of police officers is a smokescreen for city council this put in place policies that are driving recruits away. >> 100 officers retired or resigned last year. the department has been on a similar pace this year pushing street-ready offi
