msnbc trymaine lee is in ferguson. what is the latest for when this all might happen? >> reporter: thank you. to say a decision would be imminent is a vague term, but all indications point to any day now. ed mcgee, a sports person for st. louis county prosecutor's office says the grand jury is still meeting. this more than attorney general eric holder released a video saying he was calling for peace, urging calm and new guidance to law enforcement how to protect demonstrators' constitutional rights and keep peace. one school district canceled school monday and tuesday because of anxiety and uncertainty over a decision. also on thursday night, mike brown sr., the father of michael brown, released a video again saying he didn't want his son's death to be in vain and he hoped he would spark some change. let's take a listen to what he said last night. >> i thank you for lifting your voices to end racial profiling and police intimidation. by destroying property or hurting others is not the answer. no matter what the grand jury decides, i do not want my son's death to be in

msnbc's richard lui is in ferguson for us. richard, how badly were local businesses affected by what happened on monday night? >> reporter: alex, good day to you. two things to consider today that will help the businesses, first thing is the weather. it is around 58 degrees right now. it hit the teens earlier in the week. second thing that will help, we just learned today that the road will be open, a majority of florissant from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local. if they couldn't get access, the customers to these businesses, those that might be open weren't getting customers during those hours of the day that the road was closed because it was difficult to enter those areas. how hard were they hit? well, the estimates are very early in at the moment. some have locally said it could be in the millions. but the dellwood mayor that's adjacent to ferguson said, 10% of my business district was destroyed. i just had the opportunity to see a great portion of that area that the mayor was talking about. and it is stark. what you're seeing

joining us is andrea mitchell, host of "andrea mitchell reports" on msnbc. big question, big picture, how this speech lands, particularly how it lands at the other end of pennsylvania avenue in congress. >> well, in fact, that's the biggest challenge, because i think out in the country, you're going to find that there is more of a welcoming attitude towards this if people listen to what the president said. he redefined amnesty. he said amnesty is the current broken system. amnesty is not what the critics are saying it is but i talked to a leading democratic red state senator just tonight who had been briefed, the caucus was briefed by the white house chief of staff denis mcdonough and he said it was a tough go for mcdonough because some in the caucus believe the president has made it impossible by taking this step so shortly so soon after the midterm shellacking that he took which they blame him for, by the way. that he is then made it impossible for any of the republican moderates that they were working with very quietly to do anything that is constructive.
