tim cook slammed the indiana bill. the ceos of line of the largest companies wrote letters urging them to change the law including ang an angies list, dow. >> they published an op-ed trying to talk people down about how they're freaking out about this bill. the governor does sort of answer the question that he would not answer this weekend. if you're worryied about gay people being denied service in indiana restaurants, don't worry. he explains there is a plan for that. quote, if i saw a restaurant owner refuse to serve a gay couple, i would not eat there any more." so if you were concerned they would be refused service, don't worry that could never happen because the state is wielding the threat of depriving businesses of mike pence's personal patronage. it's going to well now that two states are thinking about following mike pence down this hole. arkansas is saying he will sign it. arkansas's largest company is walmart, they're against the bill. in north carolina they're against the bill but it seems like pat mcquacc

state utility forecasting group in indiana has forecasted a 30% increase in indiana electrical costs in part from usepa regulations already in place and the 111-d proposal will add additional costs on top of that 30%. usepa itself predict its 111-d proposal will increase the cost of natural gas and cost per kilowatt hour by 10% in the next six years. furthermore increase in energy costs hit the poor, elderly and most vulnerable in our society first. at a time when indiana is doing all that it can to grow its economy and create jobs the epa's proposal create as very real possibility that the increased energy costs will slow our economic progress and raise people's utility bills. in indiana we're obviously concerned about the economic impact of the epa's proposed rules on business and consumers but we have filed 31 pages of technical comments. we want to make sure the rule does not result in unintended consequences such as reduced reliability resulting in brown outs or not yet having all the necessary infrastructure in place to convert from coal to natural gas. for purposes of due dili

we start with discrimination in the state of indiana. on thursday republican governor mike pence signed a so-called religious freedom bill into law. the bill was signed in a private ceremony in pence's office. no members of the public or press were allowed to attend. here it is. senate bill 101 prohibits state or local governments from sub substantially burdening a person's ability to exercise their right to religion. sounds like a lot of gobbledygook. when you break it down, it is a whole bunch of discrimination. opponents say it provides the opportunity to discriminate against gay and lesbian americans. the law could also provide the opportunity to discriminate against any faith. on thursday pence came out and defended the law. >> this bill is not about discrimkrimcrimination discrimination. if i thought it was about discrimination, i would have vetoed it. it doesn't apply to private disputes among individuals unless government is involved. i think there's a lot of misunderstanding about this bill. >> there's a lot of explaining that h

so what do you think it is about the indiana law? what is different here that is so upset people in your view? >> well, it's hard to tell. like governor malloy of connecticut saying he's banning people going to indiana when he has actually a stronger riffer law in connecticut. the lunacy of the left here is it's hard to identify what's driving this when you look at the fact indiana as you said joins 19 other states plus the federal government. so i guess these guys aren't going to come to washington, d.c. because of the federal signed into law back in 1993. >> mark -- >> that's not true. >> mark go ahead. >> yeah. it's not like the 19 other laws. tony, i have tremendous respect for his religious convictions, but this isn't like the other laws. the thing that's different about the indiana law is section 9 that allows for businesses or entities or individuals to discriminate against other individuals. >> it doesn't allow for discrimination. don't mischaracterize -- >> this is a defense. >> it gives them the right to raise the defense.

this is in clark county indiana, southern indiana there. this is a wide view of the crash scene. hard to make out exactly where the tour bus is among the mess there. we don't have control of the camera on this helicopt so you'll forgive us if the camera moves from time to time. as we zoom in here you can see more about the scene. this is interstate 65. it heads up through indianapolis on the way to chicago. we have seen a medical helicopter arrive there on scene. you can see that parked in the lane of traffic. looks like it is lifting off now. no word yet though on the number of injuries where that bus was headed. we know this happened near the 22 mile marker on i-65. if you're at all familiar with that interstate there, through indiana. and dispatchers have said that this was not a school bus. so we know it wasn't a school bus. it may have been a tour bus. we'll continue to monitor the information coming out of indiana there and get you more information as soon as it is available. >>> well, a new study shows americans faith in government is at or near an all time low. that surve

the people of indiana. and we've been listening. let me say first and foremost as i've said to each one of them -- the religious freedom restoration act was about religious liberty. not about discrimination. as i said last week, had it law been about legalizing discrimination i would have vetoed it. this law does not give anyone a license to discriminate. the religious freerm restoration act in indiana does not give anyone the right to deny services. to anyone in the state. it is simly a balancing test -- simply a balling test used by the federal courts and jurisdictions across the country for more than two decades. let me say on the -- >> you've been listening live to mike pence trying to clarify about a law that's created quite a bit of controversy. he said this law is not discrimination. it's a balancing act that's been used by the federal courts for two decades. pam cook will be listening into the rest of this news conference and will have more on the story coming up later this hour right here on "morni
