let's go right to doug hill with a look at our forecast at noon. doug: we have a winter weather advisory in effect at noon and western maryland and along the appalachian mountains. it does not go into effect until 6:00 p.m. tonight for the metro area although east to the chesapeake bay. the problem isn't a lot of snow. maybe half an inch. it will be temperatures being so cold in the roadway surfaces so-called. every flake will stick. the traffic will note the flakes and able re-freeze. we have seen it time and again. a tiny amount of snow causing a disproportionate amount of problems. probably 7:00 to 9:00 tonight. 32 it best. light snow developing flurries. the real cold and windy stuff will not be moving in until after midnight. ahead of the front we will get some of the snow. parts of south carolina. all this energy racing eastward ahead of this powerful arctic cold front. a little sense of timing. 4:30 this afternoon coming across the interstate 81 corridor. the band of snow showers moving through and out of the area probably by 10:00 tonight.

doug: hi, doug hill with you, updating the severe thunderstorm watch until 11:00. to the south, to campbell county, tornado warning and more of these will be developing as we have a large number of tornado warning ace long the line. weather that will affect the metro area. we are thinking closer to 6:00. watch the motion. this line moving from west to east at 35 miles per hour. even though the individual storms are moving that way at it 45 to 50 miles per hour. here is what it means. frederick area generally an hour from now the line will be hitting you. in an hour and a half, around 6:00, the line will come to the d.c. metro. in two hours at 6:30 it will hit the portion of the southern maryland. all along the line there have been numerous heavy storms and tornado warnings. many in effect now. we count at least six in line south of raleigh-durham. as the line moves east of 35. and the storms northward, many will get stronger and several of them are developing a rotation. we see evidence there is not just rotation but they are hitting the ground and doing damage as

doug: it's still february. wintertime. yesterday was warm that helped to set the stage for the violent storms. it's quiet now. we said in the tease that this will feel like early spring by the weekend. maureen: already. doug: give you a rundown on the national weather service that sent survey teams out. the first one we want to talk about is tappahannock. that was rated ef3 on the scale with the top winds of 140 miles per hour. it happened after 6:35. on the ground for 25 miles to make it a long track tornado. the circulation is 400 to 500 yards. this one is e.f.-3 with the winds that range between 136 with the highest second or third gusts recorded at 165 miles per hour. this happened with 13 miles on the ground. 400 yards wide. remember that was 60 miles per hour. today is quieter. high of 60 that was at the stroke of midnight. 50 and 33 are the average. the temperatures are more tolerable. 40 in hagerstown. the skies start to clear. 46 at reagan. 44 at andrews. the temperatures will drop off. wind gust in 20 to 30 minut

chief meteorologist doug hill monitoring it for us. how does it look? doug: it looks okay. there are a few areas we are concerned about. the good news is the rain ended in the city and points west. start with a live look at national harbor. the sun has been down for 30 minutes. you can see clearing on the western horizon. this is a view from national harbor. the rain moves east. it's changing a little bit here. get to the watches and the warnings. everything in dark green are the jurisdictions under flood watches until tonight. bright green area are more concern. those are localized areas under flood warnings, which means flooding is occurring or about to occur. this is mainly over areas of the streams and the creeks. and low-lying areas. not widespread. but certainly to the north and west with the heaviest snowfall was. we will continue to monitor those conditions. overall things will improve overnight. temperatures have come up a few degrees. chilly all day. 55 in the capital. as far as the rain, doppler shows moving east. heaviest rain shows in red and orange and yellow.
