wind: s 5-15. cedar rapids police say a man pulled from a house fire this morning has died of his injuries. police say firefighters had to pull 22 year old naquave whitlock from the burning home at 611 a avenue nw. crews responded just before 2 this morning. when they arrived, a neighbor used a ladder to rescue a 20 year old woman from the home. she suffered no life threatening injuries. first responders took both to the hospital, but doctors pronounced whitlock dead when he arrived. the home sustained significant damage. crews say a frying pot with grease was left unattended and started the fire. firefighters are on long days conditions. in california, a destructive wildfire continues to grow, where officials put more than 2,400 people under evacuation orders. it's also destroyed 36 homes and 16 other buildings. this is video from a fire burning in santa barbara county. one firefighter explains why it's so difficult fighting fires in california.
