then you got hillary clinton. however, that could be a little bit misleading as our buddy eric oster mire from spart politics points out. he says the population is always growing in this country. so if you're comparing the raw popular vote total of a candidate in 2016, of course it's going to be higher than any other total in history. the country is always bigger than it ever was before. one thing to think about is the percentage of the vote she actually got. and that sitting down there, again 48.15. there are a bunch of losing candidates in the past who have gotten a higher percentage of the vote. of course they are still counting them up. she could climb in this list a little bit. but she did get more popular votes than any loser before, more popular votes than a lot of candidates who have won. but when you look at the percentage, there are some candidates who have lost races who have done better than hillary clinton did. a little bit of perspective. a little bit of context as that popular vote total continues t

in terms of hillary clinton, they kept the clinton foundation up and running throughout her time as secretary of state. what donald trump is doing first and foremost he didn't build his empire. he didn't build these foundations overnight. and it is impossible to dissolve them overnight. and i think people need to give him the benefit of the doubt that he's going to continue to do as he's been doing and sever ties. he has dissolved, as he said the donald trump foundation. he's continuing to do so with other entity he's involved and with in terms of his business deals he says he will sever ties with them before he is sworn in. i think we have to give him the time to enable him to do this. it is something that is certainly a long and laborious legal issue to do with but i truly believe he's going to do that. >> campaigning and governing, the difference is real. guantanamo bay is still open today. isn't it much harder to govern than it is to campaign? >> well, when it comes to trump, kate. everything that we're seeing that was just laid out is just the textbook definition of hypocrisy. he ran a c

clinton was very likely to win. if you are a normal human being, and he seen nine out of ten polls saying that she is ahead, you're going to draw and obvious conclusion that she's probably gonna win the election. i also think the other sort of intangible and i hate to keep going back to this, but like a good pollster a good candidate stays on message. one of the things that if you hooked all of us up to a lie detector we would have said yes, we believe she is going to win but, is going to be difficult and there are things that you can see where donald trump could win. the headwind that she was facing. but i think the biggest sticking point to going over to the other side which ultimately is where we are now that he could win is how unpopular he was, i think one of the things i think one of the things we underestimated as analyst and maybe i should say we may not we not to condemn everybody else, we also also said in our analysis but obviously it's not as provocative as saying he was the most unpopular person to run
