dealing with the rain first as it moves south but now to the north of us we are seeing plenty near ukiah. look at the raindrops on the richmond bridge. for the next couple of hours some of the south bay and east bay will be dealing with it and then 5:00, 6:00 tonight the afternoon commute will see more rainfall. and then late tonight, 10:00 or so, through the overnight hours, that's when we'll see a bit more widespread rain some areas could even see a chance of thunderstorms. we have cold air right behind this storm system. so look where it's coming from. gulf of alaska as it moves closer to us and now that it's arriving, we are getting that first band of rain showers but behind it we'll see cold air. we'll also see high winds, high surf. we are seeing that right now. and then significant sierra snowfall across the higher elevations. so the snowfall is going to be something those ski resorts really are excited about. this model showing donner summit could get as much as 14 inches. south lake tahoe at lake level could see about 6 inches. and our higher elevations around 3500 feet or so th

clover dale up 101 to ukiah so you could definitely expect some pockets of puddles in this area. let's go to the east bay, some of our earliest commuters coming in highway 4 or the altamont pass. you're just running into a wall of light to moderate rain. here we go hour by hour. yellows and oranges increase as we head to 9:00 coming up from the south and by lunch they're still around. so that's that pockets of moderate rain. as you head into the evening commute, you can see at 4:00 to 7:00. then at 7:00, look how strong and how widespread. you see that red there. that's the possibility of thunderstorms. and then by tomorrow morning it starts to taper, at least the intensity. we'll keep rain around tomorrow on a scattered nature. and we'll keep it a 1, light on the storm impact scale. we'll dry out quickly wednesday. sunshine by the weekend. we'll take a look at rain totals when we come back. here is sue. >>> lots of hydroplaning out there for traffic folks. the east bay and emeryville picture, the east shore freeway from berkeley on into the mcarthur maze. it's moving at the limi

even this afternoon as we will have some low 60s in oakland with some low 70s in the half-moon bay and ukiah today up to 68 degrees. as we break it down for san jose starting out at 46 degrees, a chilly morning and then warming up to 65 degrees by 4:00. we will see just a few clouds later on tonight but i think for the most part in time for the eclipse tomorrow morning it will be mostly clear at least for the south bay. getting dressed this morning you do need a nice warm jacket but later on today it's all about the sunglasses. we have seen a lot of clouds rolling by and the storm system that's been just to the north of us is starting to fizzle out just a little bit and we will get more sun over the next few days. here is a look at our seven-day forecast showing temperatures in the low to mid 60s for san francisco, upper 60s by the end of the week into the weekend, and we do stay dry over these next seven days. look at how warm it will be, well above normal for the end of january into the start of february. i will talk more about that coming up. mike is shifting the focus in the tri-valley.

only two reporting stations, san jose and ukiah didn't quite mee reach 2 inches. mountain view, 5 1/2 inches in kenfield. it was a big soaker. we got two records from yesterday. daily records. the first one is san jose. 1.4 inches yesterday. that sets a new record for that date. and even heavier rain fell in san francisco. 3.15 inches, and that made the old daily record of 2.36 go by the wayside. look what happened back in 1872. now it's the 16th wettest day ever in san francisco. the weather service tweeted me this to show me our top five. notice four of the top five were back from the 1800s. the top one, don't look at that, 5.54 inches on november 5th back in 1994. thought you might be interested in that because if you were in san francisco, it was all day rain, itstopped. now it's quieter. see the thicker clouds to the south where we have our best chance of rain and to the east through 4:00 today. partial clearing then the thick fog forms for tomorrow's morning commute. chance of showers especially across the north bay tomorrow. right now see the showers especi
