i also my family and i live in the city. when i am not working, i am still on the bus on the train riding my bike, walking, driving in the city. i feel like i am somewhat emersed in the job even when i am not working. that is pretty much what i do. a big part of the job is developing a budget every two years. >> thanks for that. before we get to questions. let's start off with overview about the sfmta budget and describe what it means for the city of san francisco. >> happy to do that. i have slides i will use to guide the conversation. it is a large agency. the budget can be a little bit complex. i am glad we only do it every two years. it is obviously an important part of what we do. the budget is what frames a lot of the activity we do over the course of the years. to start out with, just to give a sense of the scope and scale of the agency and rough numbers. $1.1 billion operating budget. that is the money we spend every year. $3.6 billion five year capital program. those are the investments that we are making over time

so it's just not the best design for people coming from out of the city into the city. especially in regards to speeding. you know, me as a mother, i've seen at my son's school, some serious barriers there and part of the problem is the drivers themselves. so you know, they don't have the right to go through the red light, but ironically, the law sometimes allows that, they may or may not know if they can go through that red light or not. and may or may not end up in jail. how do we resolve that problem with people going through red lights? it's scary. specifically for deaf-blind individuals who have no or limited vision and they're trying to walk and all of a sudden, they're hit. the emphasis really is on the driver. >> thank you so much for the feedback. i couldn't agree with you more regarding concerns with respect to speeding and red light running. for vision zero, we actually have the sf police department, has a program called focus on the five, where they focus on the top violations that contribute to the most severe traffic injuries in the city. and that includes

this is a city-wide solution to a city-wide problem and most of the neighborhoods to not have a community benefit district that will help with this, but this supplemental will. the problem has increased disproportionately to population increases throughout the city. and the citizens of san francisco, using this pocket change we found in the couch, will see a positive increase of 8% of the manual street cleaning crews out on the streets. these are actual jobs. and they are union jobs. so hands up for the 9916 brothers and sisters who are doing the work. this will assess many of our commercial corridors throughout the city. there is one piece which includes $230,000 to assist exiting organization to extend the level of service to include cleaning on weekends. while the overwhelming majority of the supplemental is for mon wall cleaning, it does pride for the purchase of -- provide for the purchase of state-of-the-art machines. and we have folks here that if needed can talk about those machines. if you're to think of these as vacuum cleaners, they're the best filter you can get. this suppleme
