live in napa, eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> eric, thank you. for more on the fire danger facing the bay area right now, let's bring in abc 7 news meteorologist spencer christian. spencer this -- this is problematic all over california. >> it really is, larry. especially here in the northern and central parts of the state where we have so many major fires burning at once. now, this red flag warning is in effect until 11:00 p.m. tomorrow for a wide area, including the areas where the fires are burning right now to our north and over to the east into the sierra and the sierra ridge and foothills. the ridge is -- the gusts will be generally 25 to 35 miles per hour in those areas due north of the bay area. in the east area of the sierra the gusts will be up to 65 miles per hour with dangerously low relative humidity. looking at the ranch fire and the river fire, you can see that it's about 90 degrees in both locations and the wind is gusting to 27 miles per hour. and we expect wind gusts to just taper off a little bit during the overnight hours, and

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in russian hill. hi, amy. >> hi, good morning, reggie. at the academy of science and technology. there are several bus stops around the school here at polk and francisco. the kids who take the bus here, could be a little late today on this first day of school. muni has an operator shortage. san francisco school officials went ahead and put out a warning to its campuses that children and staff might be late arriving to school because of this shortage. muni responded saying officials moved 72 employees from part time to full time to provide more coverage. they did that on friday and that should bring them about 700 more service hours a day. they think that will have a huge impact this week. everyone is on notice just in case this first day of school might have some delays. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >>> what a pain. a three-car side show on the bay bridge shut down all five westbound lanes yesterday at 10:45 in the morning. one driver crashed or broke an axle doing doug

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live at sfo this morning for us. matt? >> good morning, jessica and reggie. going through security at airports is not fun, but many people are concerned and confused about the latest proposal, believing it could make flying unsafe. this is just a proposal, no final decision has been made yet. the tsa proposal is to eliminate security screenings at more than 150 small and medium sized airports that operate commercial planes with 60 seats or less, about 10,000 daily passengers. those passengers and their luggage would be screened at the larger airports like sfo before leaving on their connecting flight. so why would they do that? according to cnn the move would save $115 million which could be used to bolster safety at larger airports. tsa's operating theory is smaller planes are less attractive targets to terrorists. security expert rick smith spoke to abc 7 news by phone and worries without screening weapons could be brought on to planes. >> you open up a hole there in security and you compromise the entire system. so i do
