amy hollyfield is live at the pleasant hill bart station where the suspect was arrested with more on both sides of this suit. >> reporter: hi, reggie. the family says that bart has a duty to protect its paerpssenge but officials point out he was arrested an this station because of their surveillance cameras. john cowell was arrested and accused of killing a young woman on a platform. the lawsuit says he should have been banned from bart because he was caught for not paying his fare just days earlier. he is accused of stabbing 18-year-old nia wilson to death and police say it appears to be a random attack with no motive. nia's family is suing bart saying the attack was foreseeable and preventable. bart has stepped up police pa patrols in the last year, has installed working cameras on all trains, and has cracked down on fare evasion. a statement from a spokesperson at bart goes on to say, our hearts break for the wilson family. their grief must be unbearable. bart as an agency will continue to do all we can to ensure a safe trip for our riders. nia's funeral is scheduled for 11:00 in

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in danville this morning. amy? >> good morning, reggie. we got a list of the five victim names overnight and it appears three of them work here at this pacific union real estate office here in danville. also looks like there might be a couple relatives on board that plane. take a look at the names, range in age, these victims, from 29 to 62. scott shepherd was the pilot, and floria hakimi and lara shepherd and na individu individual hakimi and nasim ghanadan. she is a realtor in danville and on the website says she treats her clients like family and her family did confirm she was on a business trip being on board this plane. this plane crashed in a shopping center parking lot in santa ana close to the airport. the pilot needed to make an emergency landing but crashed in the parking lot killing everyone on board. a witness heard a loud noise from the engine. >> i don't know if he lost control or there was something wrong with the engine. but you can hear everything was loud. >> reporter: no one was hurt on the groun

. >> let's go live to abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield at the pleasant hill bart station with the latest on the lawsuit. amy? >> hi, jessica. in response to this lawsuit bart points out that suspect was arrested here at this pleasant hill bart station and points to its system of surveillance cameras, 4,000 of them, as playing a role in that arrest. also in responding to the lawsuit, bart says it has stepped up its patrols of officers for the past year and that arrests are up. the family of 18-year-old nia wilson is suing bart saying bart has a legal duty to protect its passengers from assault. john cowell was arrested and accused of her murder which police have been calling a random attack with no motive. the families argues he should have been banned from bart because he was stopped for fare evasion a few days earlier. nothing is more important than the safety of our riders and employees. we are thankful the suspect is in custody, due in large part to our surveillance system. the spoke person says their heart breaks for wilson's family. nia's funeral is scheduled for 11:00 tomorrow morn
