jon: what do you think, james? james: it is an interesting argument. i agree with what they are attempting to do, and i think that is healthy, but to a large degree they could not go on investing the way that they were. my concern here is that the type of fiscal stimulus that we are seeing, consumer related, may have come a bit late. all the information we are getting from offshore is there has been a massive, negative shock to confidence, private enterprises and employees, the consumers of china, are feeling very concerned. and so when you have a savings rate, 25%, and you add fiscal stimulus on top of this, on some of a consumer who is nervous about keeping their job and growth prospects in the economy, that means probably a high propensity to save. that becomes another drag on the economy, unless it is recycled back. so you have a situation where yes, yes stimulus is going in, but it is pushing in on both sides, the consumption side and business side. you may be giving people a debt. jon: what i am hearing is, just in terms of the market, there is a

we will explore james hope and his art. two, as i have hinted at, these works represent some sort of fundamental departure for the artist and also in many ways, our departures from -- are departures from what was pretty popular in the culture at the time. there is some sort of shift going on in the art community that i think in many ways interfaces with how audiences are consuming that war through photography and other media. finally, i wanted to think about using different forms of evidence. the course of this semester thus far, you have been working on your blogs, done very well, using primarily letters and diaries. what other forms of evidence are available to you as burgeoning scholars? this is a different type of evidence that we obviously have to look at in a different way, but i'm hoping we can pick up some skill sets today as we go through these depictions to think about how this might interface with your own work. those are our three overarching goals. i want to ground this a bit in what i talked about earlier this
