but florida and south florida in specific has a larger issue. in the state of florida we have what is called a sedowsky trust fund which is fees paid during real estate closings which is fees that go to a trust where the dollars are applied across the state for developments of affordable housing. the state of florida collects almost $400 million in that trust fund every year but annually our state legislature sweeps half of that to go into the general fund. so since 2009 when it was adopted, nearly $2 billion have been swept out of in trust fund. so if you can imagine $2 billion going towards affordable housing in south florida, central florida, southwest florida, in the pan handle, we would have tens of thousands of affordable housing units available for floridians. so it's working with those authorities that have a higher pay grade than municipalities like states and federal government. if we all just work together in an intentional way we can ensure that we serve our constituents much better. >> mayor bowser could you talk more about what we

and, listen, florida is a must win state for donald trump. if you look at the numbers we've all seen coming out of the rest belt, pennsylvania, ohio, and so forth, without florida, there really is likely no path to re-election for donald trump. florida is often referred now as a red state because republicans continue to win statewide. it is really 51-49 and the way you win a tight race like that is you have to have republicans out there voting. florida republicans have essentially a super majority in the state capitol. they just passed and the governor desantis signed a ban on sanctuary cities anywhere in the state of florida. i expect we'll hear the president talk about that tonight. so donald trump is speaking to a very targeted electoral college math constituency if you will. this is not going to be an issue that resonates in the suburbs of virginia or nauj virginia or new jersey or other places but he doesn't need to win those places. he can write those off if he can win these red states. >> that's a wow. eddie wants to make a last point.

i think florida, orlando specifically is significant in that florida twice went for president obama during his tenure and then flipped and went for president trump in 2016 and 2018 during a horrible year for republicans last fall, republicans saw bright spots in florida winning a senate seat and governorship by the slimmest of margins and won it nonetheless. i think the president and his people see florida as a bright spot and somewhere where they can continue to make in roads. >> that being said, we are about a year and a half out from the election now. how much do we actually make of these polls at this appointment? how do you think the president fairs in interviews like we've been watching? i imagine he'll be doing much more of those in the coming months? >> i think the president said that himself that people would be seeing him more, perhaps on more diverse networks and in interpret interviews like this one over the weekend. the president did call these numbers phoney fake numbers as he often does. on the other hand, his own campaign has acknowledged that those leaked internal memos we
