karnow has been tracking the winds in the weather. certainly a high fire danger lights. yeah, very scary this afternoon. i remember graham said, hey, we've got a fire going in american canyon. i thought, oh, no, not now. >> because this is one of those extreme nights where we can see fires like this just erupt so rapidly that they're extremely dangerous now we continue to see the winds in around american canyon everywhere is seeing some breezy conditions. the winds have backed off a little bit. that is good news and way to go to firefighters. they've already got this 50% contained. they got to get the rest of it, though. but look at the winds they blowing in excess of 3036 miles an hour. now backed off. and just this last hour, all the way down to 60 miles per hour. now that is still coming out of a north northwesterly wind that means the wind is going continue to blow fire in this direction. of course, you've got some train that it's working with in and around this area. fires tend like to run uphill if they can. of course, if you ge

. >> chief meweorologist lawrence karnow here tonight with the details on what you can expect on the fire danger and first thing in the morning. yeah. guys, we've got another cold front that's moving in the california great news to bring some showers. >> in far northern california. we see couple sprinkles here. but once that system moves through, then we start talking about another round of wind. so the national weather service has issued a red flag warning beginning on thursday morning starting at 10:00am in solano county that continue till 08:00pm on thursday as well. but i think we'll see that may be extended in toward napa. maybe sonoma county may be in parts of the east bay as we're going to see some strong, gusty winds coming through. it's not going to be strong as the event we just had here comes the cold front dropping into the bay area. just kind of fall apart as it gets a little bit closer. so not leaving much in the way of rain for us. maybe a couple drops here and there. otherwise it will be about the winds and those winds are going to get blustery. the winds start to cal

let's check in with the busiest man in the department chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. yeah, definitely track shoes on now. we're going to be busy for a while. this may be the biggest storm we've seen in october in quite some time. we're going to see all works out. but in recent memory this will be one of the biggest in a while out there. now, though, we are catching a bit of a break. a lot of clouds in our skies. the rainfall moving mainly to the north of the front getting ready to move on shore for tomorrow morning. you see some of the starting to clip the northern sonoma county. but the rest, the bay area remaining dry now overnight tonight things are going to change his a high-resolution model showing you a little bit closer up. look, as we get in toward tomorrow morning. you see the first part of that front moving through about 4 o'clock in the morning in the san francisco and then the bulk of the front on the backside, moving a little bit later. but as we head toward about 7.30. still some lingering showers out there when you for the commute, it's just going to be

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with the weekend forecast don't forget halloween. yeah. halloween. that's the really big one, too. but yeah, this weekend we're going to notice some changes, of course, just a gorgeous day today. lots of sunshine and temperatures above the average tomorrow we're going to notice a few clouds begin to move in some patchy fog overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning. then a couple mid to high level clouds. >> kind of streaming across our skies. but look at the numbers today 74 degrees in san francisco for a high 74 also in oakland 79 in san jose. beautiful 76 in lemore 77 conquer. one of the warm spots 81 in santa rosa. the rain line is moved to the north, at least for the short term. and that's bringing some heavy rain up toward the pacific northwest where kitchen a nice dry weather. now. they continue to see those showers rotating through there. that's good news for us. so tomorrow looks like we'll be dry numbers outside right now we're in the 50's and the 60's. so if you're going outside lands tomorrow plan on some patchy fog in

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. >> with a look at what we can expect weather wise. yeah. notice some sailors walking up and down the embarcadero today as we get ready for fleet week time when all the jets going to come roaring into town. it looks like the weather may just cooperate in time friday going to be a little touch and go. we're going to see a lot of clouds rolling on by. but as we get into saturday and sunday think offshore winds are going to set. and that means we will see some nice weather mostly sunny skies will be a little bit breezy. >> expect those winds 10 to 20 miles an hour. but the temperatures in the upper 60's in the san francisco, maybe even a little bit warmer than that and some mild weather was sunny skies continuing into sunday as well out there. now we do have a couple clouds are rolling on in as a change in the weather really taking place today. drop in temperatures all around. the good news is the air quality looking fantastic here in the green. everywhere we go all around the bay area with that nice on shore. breeze. cold front sliding in town

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow will take a look at the potential fire danger plus the cost of doing business in san francisco. weighing heavily on walgreens held the rise in retail crime is forcing some stores tw close their doors for good. >> welcome back, everyone. take a look at this a carjacking victim in houston nearly run over by his own car as a robber takes off from a store parking lot. it all happened last week. the victim pulled into a gas station left his car running and then went inside of the storm. police say the victim saw that suspect get inside of his ride and ran outside to try to stop him. that's when the carjacker car thief ran up to the car. the driver's door still open which caused the victim to fall to the ground. the suspect then put the car in drive and took off houston. police say he still on the run tonight. that victim suffering minor scrapes from that incident. >> after several brazen thefts at walgreens stores in san francisco. the company is now closing 5 more of its locations in the city and they blame the rise in retail crime for those closings. the

first, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to talk about our great weather. >> yeah. fantastic weather around the bay area. guys today and we've got some changes coming up as we head in toward halloween. but then we get back to some raindrops on the way to so things in the atmosphere. i think we know some changes early as tomorrow. today was a fantastic day with temperatures running. good. 5. even 10 degrees above the average, but i think by tomorrow start to cool down. we're going to pick up a few more clouds even tonight, the wind pattern begin to shift gears just a little bit. no fog short of the golden gate bridge just yet. but i expect a little bit later on tonight. we'll see that fog kind of rolling in still kind of a mild night out there 65 degrees in san jose. the 64 in alameda. 6 degrees in pacifica and half moon bay 65 and timber on and 60 degrees in st. louis. the 59 now in the bottle. but things are beginning to change. we've had an offshore wind today and that was enough to just warm us up and now we're beginning to see little bit of a sea redeveloping ou

weather time and our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow vicki is with us now. as we widen out how you do happy friday. happy friday to there's so much going i mean, i don't know busy weekend like this in quite some and there's everything going on to the weather needs to cooperate. looks like it's going to do so we have one little hiccup on the way a longer range. so something to really worry about this weekend. be prepared. >> we're going to start to see some very gusty winds. we could see a very strong wind event as we get into sunday night monday and tuesday. the kind that makes it extremely dangerous. should a fire gets started now looking at some of those winds, maybe 50, maybe 60 miles per hour across some of the mountain tops. so we'll be watching that very, very closely around the bay area. the meantime, we've got another weak little system that's going to track a little bit closer look at that. there's some rain embedded with this weak system. this is going to sweep through overnight tonight. don't think it's really the come through till after midnight.

this is of course, the bay bridge toll plaza and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. want to seem like the winds were dying down what what's happened? they have. but they're still blowing the 20 in some cases 30 miles an hour the peace, especially over the north bay and parts of the east bay to the right. now. you got clear skies looking good all the way the coastline. but the winds. >> they have been the issue. now the winds are decreasing. but the national weather service just extending some of the advisories in this llama county parts of napa lake county. also up in mendocino as we're going to see some gusty winds continuing at least for the next couple of hours. but this storm system released this wind storm beginning to wind on down and that looks like a another chance more winds on the way. here's a look at some of the current winds around the bay area. now head toward the north bay saint lena 1516, miles an hour. up to cobb. got to 15 miles an hour. lower lake is up to 1924 mile an hour winds, 29 even mcnear 25 lake bill sears point up to 24. so we still got so

lawrence karnow chiefmeteorologist joins us. and we're looking another scary time. what tomorrow? yeah, late tonight into tomorrow about the middle of really afternoon. i think we'll see some gusty winds week. cold front kind of working its way through the bay area today. some people didn't see much in the way of any precipitation drizzle enough to get things went out along the coast. but now we've cleared out. and as we clear out, we get ready for some of those winds. so national weather service going with the forecast of red flag warnings up for solano county. but i think we've got a concern into napa. also parts a saintly the from thursday starting at 10:00am till 08:00pm. but the timing on this going to be interesting right now. not much in the way of when you've got a breeze. but that's a nice westerly wind in the san francisco at 23 miles an hour, 10 in play on 14 coming up in the south of the napa valley. now things are going to change. i want to show you this. our forecast model for some of the winds and expecting some of the higher fire danger to develop overnight tonight

. >> and our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is giving us an update on sierra snow. yeah, that is great to see several feet of snowfall across some of those higher peaks at those ski resorts. specially get above 8,000 feet or so. that's where they had a lot of heavy snow and they continue to get a little bit of a break now in a much needed break, but there are more storms lining up as we head toward next week and likely going to see a lot more storms, bringing more snow up there. those colder storms likely to roll instead of the atmospheric river. so if you're traveling up there, here's donner summit on 80. the roads are open. be careful. lot of snow there on the sides. very impressive looking. still a lot of moisture on the ground freezing possibly into early in the morning hours. so you want to avoid some of that a week to about 9 o'clock or so and then head on up. that will be a lot safer. if you're going up there the next few days. the road should stay open. watch out for some valley fog. if you're headed across the sacramento valley otherwise you're going to see

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. yeah. to talk about we the snow. yeah, you can still see a couple rocks up there, right. so bring those old if you're going this weekend until they could use a little bit more. the roads are looking good. that's the good looking at the i 80 right now are donner summit. see the snow. >> on the side start to melt away just a little bit with warmer temperatures that we've had. if you head up into the tahoe area. not expecting the snow lake level. in fact, the next storm system that's rolling in as we head into monday that will probably have some snow levels around 7500 to about a 1000 feet up. so across the higher peaks again, you'll get some snow up. some of the ski resorts. but down lake level, yes, could be a little mushy with some rain out there right now. we have another cold front off the coastline. you can see some of the showers begin to show up on the doppler radar, little swirl in the atmosphere. that area of low pressure that we're tracking still a squeeze. another nice day at a few more clouds outside. but t

karnow yeah, i know sometimes weekends kind of been sparse lately this weekend. we have 40 fun things to do outside. it's going to be a great weekend to get out there and enjoy. how about this? this the italian heritage parade that is going to take place is san francisco starting it fisherman's wharf. it's going to be a great parade if you want to get out there and see starting at 1230. it will be sunny and warm temperatures in the upper 60's by then little bit of a breeze in the afternoon, but certainly a great day to check out the parade. how about this? this kind of a fun event. this the pro wrestling and comedy battle. they're going to team up a pro wrestler and a local comedian and they're all going to wrestle. that's right. that takes place in san francisco. it's going to be tomorrow night at 10 o'clock, a late night start temperatures. they're going to be in the upper 50 should be a lot of fun. if you want to go check that one out too. the festival of india. that is going to take place in fremont. that's going to start at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. there'

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here tonight with a look at what we can expect moving into the evening hours since a gust of almost 50 miles per hour. already how we may see that overnight tonight. we could see some 60 maybe some 70. >> an hour historically this one of the most dangerous times of the year for fires here in the bay area. got to be extremely careful, especially these next 24 hours. fire conditions running very high. blessed are. you can see the tree blown in the wind there out of sfo in all around the bay area may be driving to work today saw little breezy out on the highway as well. yeah, those winds of really been we've got up across much of the bay area. all those areas shaded in red. those are red flag warnings that have now been posted in the north bay strong, gusty winds. there may be the strongest winds that this area right here near saint helene and napa. that's going to be the area probably with the strongest winds, maybe 60. maybe some 70 plus mile an hour gusts also mount diablo. you can get gusts to almost as high as that as well. so blustery there. but that

they arrive to some pretty good weather over the last few days kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here tonight. >> look at what is on tap for the next few days. we're talking rain. yeah. possibly so i think that's a big if. i mean, unfortunately, i don't see something looks really good or, you know, excited get right. i get all jazz when i start to see those storms coming in the ship oppressive looking out there. the hard to imagine this thing looks so huge. you walk up near that. you just are amazed by the size and how tall that ship is out there right now. but the flags are blowing. the wind is going to be the story again tonight. red flag warnings going up and county expecting some gusty winds overnight tonight and then the red flag warnings go into effect. thursday from 10:00am to 08:00pm. but i think we have to watch in napa county to we're going to see some of the strongest winds right across that area. and i think the humidity is going to drop right you get a nice on shore breeze that so the manatee is up by tomorrow. we get more that north northeasterly wind watch with our

karnow is here to tell us when the rain is expected to start tonight and not very far away. now some the showers are beginning in the north bay. >> and that's going to be sweeping down across the rest. the bay area overnight tonight. we're all going to see a few raindrops out there and there's plenty more to come. doppler radar, picking up on some of that activity. now, the heaviest amounts right now in the north, a pretty nice line of storms moving through. you can see moving in healdsburg right now. some heavier downpours there, stretching a little for the south. now of a bodega bay. but there's more off the coastline and we'll see plenty of this as we head through the next 24 hours. in fact, there's so many storms line up. hard to define all these storms are headed our way right now at there is going to be a significant amount of rain over the next 7 to 10 days. the first front kind opening the door and that really just leaves the jet stream sitting right across the bay area, bringing some rain and some gusty winds outside. in fact, a wind advisory is going up as we're ex

and some of the north bay hills scrum force chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. lawrence, how bad. >> expect this wind to be. yeah. i think we're talking 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts over some of the north bay mountains, especially so gusty enough that should something it going. this could be another dangerous series. we're going to see all those winds kind of kicking up throughout the night tonight and through tomorrow too. so here comes high pressure building in. we've had this low that swept through early today left behind some drizzle right along the coastline. that was about it. but once those low swing by high pressure usually tend to build in this time of year and then we start talking about those strong offshore winds developing. and we're seeing that developing now, in fact, red flag warnings going up in the county. she by the national weather service starting at 10:00am tomorrow continue in 8, but it's going to be very windy. i think even parts of the napa area. maybe a sonoma too, as we'll see some very strong gusty winds right now. here's the very late

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow large yeah. it's that time of year where people get really get caught headed up in the sierra nevada. they're going up there. >> in their shorts and their t shirts and all of a sudden got a winter storm coming in and we do have one out there now. not much of one. we're seeing some scattered showers popping up. but we're going to watch another wave of energy move on shore. another part of the storm going to come through as we head into friday. and it's that one that could drop the snow level down to maybe as low 6500 feet so that gets people going over the passes and maybe one to 3 inches of snow above 7500 feet. that's very chilly. temperatures affected your statement that all area this weekend highs only in the 50's overnight lows, probably a low 30's. so it is going to be cold out there. and we've got a couple of scattered pop up showers right now. mainly just some sprinkles the pick up on our doppler radar. most that probably evaporating before it hits the surface. but nice to cmc that around

karnow with us now. he's been tracking the system and joins us with the latest. and largest. this is not the storm that we had here on sunday know. this is a completely different storm, but they're going to feel the effects of the storm that we had that is going to be another major storm across the northeast in a weekend. right now they got their hands full. you got nor'easter rolling in and that is bringing with it all that moisture off the atlantic and pumping it right back in across much of the north eastern half of the u.s. but you see yet the core low spin right off the coastline. you all that moisture streaming back on shore from the northeast and that's bring with of that heavy rainfall. they've already seen 4 to 6 inches of rain in some parts of the northeast and continue to see more heavy rainfall out there and go along with that. some incredible winds gusting over 50 and 60 miles per hour, especially near cape cod. it is just been unbelievably windy. you can be certain that trees are coming dow

more on that storm chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has the details really the peak of tornado season. but we get a secondary peak as we head into october. >> in november's the atmosphere starts to transition winter. look at that fears line of storms moving through that actually all part of the same storm system that moved through the bay area brought us that huge rain and is now making its way across the east. look at the storms rolling right now making their way through parts of alabama and bring some very heavy rainfall in the panhandle of florida to the threat of some more tornadoes with that system as well. and it's far from done impact. this is going to be a mess. this is the forecast model for the storm system. you see the extending all the way down to the south all the way to the north now rotates makes its way all the way up in the northeast over the next couple of days. and this is going to produce severe weather. all along this path. this is an intense system. the boy all even along the eastern seaboard. they're going to see some heavy rainfall and they've already seen 4 to
