terry mcauliffe is about an hour and a half from here in charlottesville, virginia throughout the day. is he making his way up to northern virginia. the blue parts of the state. trying to turn out the democrats and make sure they get voting. mcauliffe says 867,000 have already voted in this election. that's another dynamic in this race given how quickly and deeply his poll numbers have fallen. some democrats have argued that congress finally passing this infrastructure and social spending plan will boost mcauliffe's chances in this race. mcauliffe told us that is not necessarily the case. >> do you think it will be giving a boost to your campaign? do you think the whole concept is overblown a national issue when talking about state election. >> yes, i think significantly overblown. nobody, nobody has asked me about what is happening in washington. i mean, they don't -- they are really looking at local issues. >> this race does have a national flavor. mcauliffe is trying to tie youngkin to former president donald trump. youngkin's campaign saying that trump talk is a sign mcauliffe is

what terry mcauliffe talks about, want to build up education in virginia, he's talking about taxpayer money, raising more taxes, giving money to the union. when they talk about education, they talk about allowing parents to use more of their own money to send their kids to a different school, giving parents the ability to know what is in their library, and if there's books in the library for people under the age of 18, especially young children. they believe they can go in and say "i don't want this book and my kids library." terry mcauliffe made a mistake by saying "parents do not have the right to go into their schools or have control over the kids' education." the pandemic has shined a light on where people's money is going, and whether people want to keep their kids trapped in these schools. it's going to be a tough call, but some people are saying virginia may sweep read altogether, not just in the governor's race. >> greg: right now, the race is tighter than brian kilmeade's forehead. the terry mcauliffe campaign is actually running that kind of campaign. they are not taking latino voters for granted and focusing on those pocketbook issues. when terry was governor the last time around there was a record number of latino businesses that were launched, latina businesses as well. huge economic boom for latinos. he is making sure that that is front and center. at the same time, you do have younger latinos, boris, that are worried about not necessarily the racial issues, but what carlos castro was talking about, the owner of the groceries, about what turned him off in terms of donald trump and the republicans and that is the other rising of latinos, the focus on discrimination, focus on making sure we did not feel welcomed in this country and that is a big difference in terms of what latinos are looking for. economic opportunity, but also a welcome mat for immigrants, latinos who come here to make major contributions to this great country. >> and alice i think what carlos said is something that we should discuss because his values, he told

let's go straight to terry mcauliffe who's now out front. i know you stayed on message and been consistent tieing glenn youngkin to former president trump and calming him a trump-wannabe. what's your reaction? >> this is what he does time and time again. since the beginning of his campaign, he had one issue. for six months, all he talked about was election integrity and he would not say that joe biden is legitimately elected president of the united states. he said if he were in congress, he would not know if he'll vote to certify on the january 6th date. he's been endorsed by trump five times. that rally last night was for him. he called the organizers and profusely thanked them. now we know he's in trouble. trump said yesterday, glenn youngkin will do whatever they want him to do. a flag that was used representing the greatest democracy in the world that they used to destroy our democracy, taking a pledge of allegiance is so offensive. youngkin needs to say the pledge of allegiance was wrong and he's got to deny the president who says trump
