i didn't i hope community near lake merritt is ready to house the homeless and city of oakland opening up its first large scale tiny home village today, the support of shelter project located at the corner of east 12th street and lake mary boulevard. the land had been vacant for a number of years. that was until 2018 when a homeless encampment grew there. now instead of tents. there are single occupancy pallet shelters in place. they have electricity to provide heat and the city is also bringing in portable waters for showers and toilets. the village will also include wrap around support services including health care and housing navigation for the folks who live there. >> this will be a partnership with the city with my office, with our service providers as well. as the community neighbors businesses. the faith community and others. this is a project that is working to get people into transitional and permanent housing. so we will be helping residents on a case by case basis to make sure that they will be on a path to the >> the city teaming up with the nonprofit housing consortium of

some city leaders say because of gun violence. oakland is in crisis right now. council member lauren taylor today laid out his five point plan for reducing gun violence in the city. it calls for doubling the solve rate for violent crimes cutting in half the number of unanswered 911 calls doubling the capacity of crime prevention programs. and reducing disparities in public safety response between different communities across oakland. he also proposes investing in community and mental health services. while staffing is paramount. we also have to look at other ways of addressing our clearance rate, and one of those is increasing the use of technology. people are dying. little kids are dying bullets of flying every day and our neighborhoods we must do something called the 911 is like calling. i'm telling you. santa claus was released. so far, there have been more than 120 homicides in oakland this year. that's higher than the total for any full year since 2012. when there were 131 homicides in the city. well, also in oakland, the man who attacked a prominent chinat

. >> james oakland police chief city officials. they're always talking about the efforts and the need to reduce gun violence. but unfortunately it continues to happen this time. it's a string of shootings in oakland. take a look at this map. we wanted you to get a good idea of where each shooting took place. the latest shooting happened in front of lake merritt at 1420, lakeshore avenue. video from the scene shows investigators surrounding a white suv. someone was shot in the head around 1250 this morning. the person was rushed to the hospital. dozens of yellow evidence markers could be seen everywhere. no information has been released about that person's condition. keep you updated. the next shooting happened around 9.30 last night on 97th avenue near a street. this is about a mile and a half from the oakland zoo. oakland. police say a person was shot multiple times taken to the hospital. investigators are still trying to find the shooter. and of course the motive, lastly, a woman was shot downtown oakland in front of the fox thea

the city of oakland is launching improved bulk waste removal on monday. the program will allow oakland residents to schedule no charge curbside pickups or big items through waste management of alameda county. there's also the option of no charge drop offs of large items at the waste management transfer station on davis street in san leandro. raiders can also make an appointment directly with waste management instead of scheduling through a landlord. well this weekend is dry. it's also really foggy. the fog doing its thing once again tonight into it tomorrow morning, so watch out for big drop off and visibility is once again it's kind of been happening each and every morning and once again we have dense fog advisories to talk about. so here's the plan for your sunday mild to warm. into the afternoon hours. with skies becoming partly sunny. most areas will be in the sixties and the seventies. now, here's a look at that dense fog advisory not only out toward bakersfield, fresno and modesto, but closer to the bay area as well. so that's in place right now unt
