finally complete for dozens of civilians fleeing the besieged city of mariupol. before hundreds of others, of course, the terrifying wait continues, at least for now. t ukrainian officials say they are planning more evacuation efforts, if it is safe enough to do so. of course, we'll keep an eye on that. in zaporizhzhia, there were tears of joy and relief, of course, on tudesday, as more thn 150 evacuees arrived. around 100 of them have been evacuated from the bombed out azov steel plant. but hundreds remain trapped inside the sprawling industrial complex under relentless attack. well, according to officials from both sides, russian forces have launched a fresh round of attacks on the plant. a ukrainian commander inside the plant says they've been under constant fire and he says at least two civilians sheltering in a bunker were killed during these attacks on monday. cnn's nick paton walsh was in zaporizhzhia for us when those evacuees from the mariupol steel plant arrived on tuesday. he spoke with two women about some of the horrors they endured while trapped und

what are you learning about the situation in the city of mariupol and situations at the steel plant there? >> reporter: there is a great deal of concern with what happens to the prisoners and soldiers that spent weeks inside without food or supply, many severely wounded. 250 in that convoy of busses. they are now in russian prison. their fate is uncertain at this time. we heard from the ukrainian president zelenskyy. but there is a process that he says they will have an international mediator involved in the transportation and looking over what the state is and in the future of the very severely wounded, 50 or so would be intended to be swapped for russian fridayers of war and we heard from the russians who expressed a great deal of concern and doubt whether some of those that would be passing the investigative process and that they have a committee to move forward to see if there were crimes committed against the russian friendly folks in the donbas region. >>> ukrainian officials are saying it is intensifying. what they are trying to do is to roll through the ukrainian defense line so t

important city. there is a port here that has been helping shuttle supplies including supplies for the war to help ukrainians push the russians back. and this is also an economically very strong city as well. but we are seeing the results of these missile strikes. and what is concerning to so many people here, it is not that these missile strikes that are coming from russia aren't hitting military targets, they are hitting soft targets, they are hitting targets where civilians work and live, causing a lot of consternation here, a lot worry here. every now and then the sirens go off and people take them very seriously after what they have seen. ukraine proud of the fact that it has really kept hold of this city even after all of these attacks. the russian military trying to amass on the black sea on the coast of the southern port of odesa. but right now people are fighting back by going to work, by trying to live their lives, those who are still here, trying to keep their businesses going. you see a r

that killed at least 50 people waiting to try to evacuate from this city. the consequence, though, of the evacuations, the toll in terms of wounded and dead from these frankly atrocities, this is a deliberate targeting with not dumb bombs. this was not an attack that came from an aircraft. this is clearly a surface to surface missile. and the range would indicate that they're guided missiles, not the stupid missiles, if you like, of multiple rocket launching system but much more likely the guided missiles that are available to the russians such ass is kandar. this is a deliberate act against kram kramatorsk, which is really the strategic prize for the russians, if they can capture this town. as far as the putin administration is concerned, it may be a possibility that they could then believe that they've achieved some kind of a victory and maybe stop their advance at this point. but they are at least 25 kilometers away to the north. they're pushing down, also trying to come in from the east. they've had moderate success and some losses around kharkiv. but t
