the tight battle between senate majority leader harry reid and sharron angle. we predict marco rubio the winner of a three-way race with independent charlie crist and democrat kendrick meek. richard blumenthal over republican linda mcmahon. christopher coons defeats christine o'donnell who made the ad saying she wasn't a witch. in in ohio, rob portman defeats lee fisher. bob, there is a possibility the republican could control the senate. >> reporter: if there is good news for the democrats tonight it is probably they will hold onto the senate. mitch mcconnell, who is the senate republican leader says they are probably going to hold all the republican seats that they have up tonight, but he says if they're going to take the senate they're going to have to take 10 of those 12 senate seats right there that are now held by democrats. now, they've already taken three of them, but the important thing is the republicans -- the democrats have taken two, which means if the democrats are going to lose control of the senate, republicans have to get all the rest of those

happy couple, sharron angle and harry reid. it looks like she has the edge, would you say? >> in the polls, she is ahead. out of the margin of error, but she has been consistently ahead, so that is good for her. it really does come down to turnout, because it is that close to both sides are working really hard. some of the early voting patterns suggest that the republicans have the best of that as well. it does not look good for harry reid in nevada right now. >> even if he wins, i would not put any money on his remaining leader. >> colorado, michael bennet, to close to call? >> tossup, but michael bennet has a slight lead, a couple of points. >> to close to call. >> it is possible that voters will record as he is a good guy and deserves to be there. -- will recognize that he is a good guy and deserves to be there. >> what about barack obama's illinois senate seat? is that leading republican? >> yes. it is surprising that it is not more so, but that race is tightening up. we have to focus on turnout. >> washington state, patty murray is the incumbent. >> tossup. >> i was in

>> i was actually surprised harry reid held on to his seat in nevada. it wasn't just the fact he was running against sharron angle that made it impossible for him to remain in the senate, despite the fact that nevada has one of the highest unemployment and foreclosure rates in the country. it was also the fact that there was a line in the ballot in nevada that was none of the above. so people who did not want to vote for harry reid had the choice of voting for sharron angle or none of the above. so maybe none of the above actually saved harry reid. >> larry: ben, what surprised you? >> i guess what surprised me is that as karl rove has been saying, and i think he knows politics, we now have in this economically depressed rust belt area around the great lakes a solid chain of republican governors. something that would have been thought impossible a couple years ago. so that just amazes me. and if the republicans play their cards right, but i don't know how they do it, it puts them in a very strong position for the next election. but solid republican belt

sharron angle and harry reid the polls not closed there yet.we're waiting to see whether harry reid survives. >> if you speak to the reed folks they feel good about their early vote. of course how the election day voters now show up and turn out will have a large component of the final results in this race. what you have here is the best sort of narrative overall on the cycle. you have the washington insider and the majority leader and the tea party candidate. it hits both the insider versus outsider. this is an insurgent energetic force in the republican party. >> senator reed's son is running for governor in a very difficult race. >> ifill: i want to talk about ohio. these house races. we don't want to overlook the fact as jim just mentioned the house is shifting hands in three races in ohio show us why. we're looking especially at ohio 16 with... and house 18 with jack space running against bob gibbs and in house 15 mary jo killroy. it's amazing. eve one of these races are races in which incull bents a tipping point districts are in trouble. >> yeah. ohio is clearly a problem for democrat

majority leader harry reid facing a tough challenge from tea party candidate sharron angle. our own ray suarez is at reed's headquarters at the aria casino and resort in las vegas. he joins me now. ray, you've been there. what are you picking up on the ground? we know the polls don't close for another three hours. >> suarez: well, i visitd several polling places during the day. the traffic you'd have to say was slow but steady in all cases. some of the poll workers said what you should really be looking out for the early voting. it was exceptionally large this time around. some 400,000 nevadans cast their vote early or by absentee ballot. really those are votes in the bank for somebody. the democrats are saying it favors them. because right now they're ahead in the number of registered voters who voted by earlier voting but their registration advantage is so much larger than their advantage in the early vote that it is hard to count that as a definite advantage. the republicans are saying, no, you see it's the other way around. we're the ones who are getting out more of our
