that was a big consideration for mitch daniels. now, tim pawlenty, his family is all system goss and he's going to have his announcement he's running for president in iowa with a town hall meeting and a release day video announcing that. let's run through a list of who is in and who is out. this race is starting to congeal, the gop field is starting to come together. who is in? well tim pawlenty is in, speaker of the house newt gingrich, former speaker is also in, ron paul, is in as well and herman cain announced over the weekend, he is a businessman from atlanta. out, this is a longer list which helps the field come together. mitch daniels, mike huckabee, donald trump, jeb bush, haley barbour and chris christi say they are not running in 2012 and the possibilities at this point, they're likelihoods, mitt romney former massachusetts governor and jon huntsman, former governor of utah and then balkman and palin are big maybes. bachmann leaning towards a race, sarah palin, a lot of folks don't think she is going to run. for tim pawlen

and party insiders are scrambling, begging indiana governor mitch daniels and new jersey's chris christie to get into the race. christie said no way. and daniels hasn't exactly sounded enthusiastic. maybe it's because they don't have the stomach for it. those candidates that are likely to run are backing away from their more moderate views, like mitt romney, who says as governor of massachusetts, his health plan was nothing like president obama's. >> what we were doing in our state was quite different than that. it was a more modest proposal, if you will. and that was, we're not having government take over and run health care. instead wire trying to find a way to get people in our state that didn't have insurance insured. >> tim pawlenty apologized for supporting cap and trade as a way to cut greenhouse gas emissions. all which appealed to the extreme right wing of the party. those voters who decide primaries. independent john after long ways polarization of the parties and rise of the internet have created a cannibalistic feeding frenzy. maybe that's why mike huckabee decided to bow out.

daniels and haley barbour decided not to run. but you and i remember, wolf, lots of presidential campaigns we thought the field wasn't that terrific. now the one that i remember the most is back in 1992. we used to talk about how the favorites in the democratic field did not get n take a look at this. in 91992, everybody thought maro cuomo, dick gephardt and of course, al gore, they were going to get in and beat george h. w. bush h they decided not to get n then in the fall of 1991, as the campaign heated up, you had massachusetts senator paul tsongas got in. people thought, okay, that's fine. then you had three more -- four more candidates join in, one of them, of course, was of the relatively unknown democratic governor from arkansas, bill clinton. people didn't know who he was really are. they know he had given a couple of lousy speeches. and lo and behold, in the end, it was bill clinton who started talking about the economy, making bush 41 look out of touch. next thing you know, he is president of the united states. >> at th

but interestingly enough, i guess it was the psychological build up to the mitch daniels campaign that ultimately didn't happen where all of a sudden the last week or two, i'm hearing a lot of republicans say, you know what, x isn't that bad. people coming to tim pawlenty, they are tired of speculating. they are ready to get on with it. and we are watching for governor palin to shake up this race. she would be at the top of the polls. who else? is there somebody else that you're going to say, i'm going to watch this person and they will make a decision and surprise us? >> i'm going to keep saying governor christie, no matter how many times he denies that the republicans are going to -- i think obviously governor perry we're going to watch but i don't think he's going to. he's lining himself up to be vice president or a candidate for 2016. let's speculate so that i can be in the line-up for the next time around. governor huntsman clearly, i met with him. i think he's extremely credible and mayor giuliani is somebody out there who has said that he has not said no at this point and he's a
