the shuttle was coming down 18th treat and making a left on hartford when the pedestrian was struck. the woman's body has not been removed from the scene. what is puzzling is why the muni driver made a left on to hartford, it is a narrow street and does not lead anywhere. it is essentially a dead end and the residents in the area say they never remember a bus turning on to hartford street so that is one problem that police and muni officials are trying to figure out. we have seen the driver, the driver is sitting in the back of a police squad car right now and he has turned up his collar to cover his face. we are told that police will be making a statement shortly. we have been hearing that for the last 20 minutes but they have not come out and said anything official. we can tell you that 18th street is closed around hartford so cars in the area should not come down here or plan on using a detour. so the place is still very much a fluid situation. we are trying to figure out what happened and how this happened. when we get more we will pass it on. channel 2 news. >>> a 4-year-old boy

we've been talking, that's old saybrook, connecticut, we're going to reporter jeff stricker of our hartford station, wvit. we can see the water coming up where you are, you must feel like you're standing in the sand. >> the water just came up above our feet. we're at a sea wall here at old saybrook. at saybrook point. this is the connecticut river. bear in mind, this is a river, not quite an ocean yet. this is close to where it spills into the long island sound. this looks like ocean the way the waves are lapping up against the sea wall. one of the things we're concerned about in connecticut is the storm surge, we're anticipating near or perhaps above-record storm surge and that can create some serious flooding issues, not only along the shoreline here in connecticut, but also for many of connecticut's rivers that feed into the ocean. right now we have a serious power outage issue here in connecticut, a quarter of a million people are without power and the storm surge obviously continues to rise, because my photographer and i continue to get battered at saet wall. we've moved our position o

appreciate everything the stowe center has done, and this is such a great year to come to the center in hartford. the 200th anniversary of the birth of harriet beecher stowe whose novel created such an uproar that lincoln called her the little lady who made this great war. it's possibly an understatement. i think it's true from the research i've done, but a lot of people were saying very, very similar things about that novel other than abe lincoln. it's the 150th anniversary of the civil war, and so the ideal time to reconsider stowe and her war in igniting the civil war and influencing american history up to modern times. although it's associated with the civil war in most people's minds, some historians said it had minimal influence on politics, but this view ignores the tremendous power of the public in the america which regarded stronger than the government, an ideal that lincoln echo the when he declared our government rests on public opinion. whoever can change public opinion can change the government. lincoln was recognizing what some historians today have forgot. culture in politics are
