let's go over to bob turk. tracking the storms on first warning doppler radar. >> particularly south and west of the region. around d.c. area, strong storms. they still have a tornado warning in effect for portions of the northern virginia area. all of these moving quickly at 30 miles an hour. as you can see, right around the washington area. and portions of montgomery county. that's where the heaviest activity is now. around the beltway, around loudoun county. western portions of montgomery county, southern frederick county as well. and south of that region, as we go down toward the potomac river, in western sections of charles county, strong storms heading off to the north. looks like washington, washington, d.c. there right under the gun. here in the baltimore region now, it's pretty quiet. some of this activity can move further to the east. still have a risk of at least some scattered showers and thunderstorm activity. have produced at least three small, quick-moving tornadoes late this afternoon, around th

bob? >> reporter: we were over at the quarry before 7 this can morning when law enforcement started hightailing it out of there over to this location. you see that yellow crime scene tape. that is the parking lot where this alleged attempted carjacking took place. it's actually the parking lot that belongs to a hewlett packard office complex where someone matching the suspect's description shot and tried to hijack a driver. he failed and moved to the right, ran across the street, over to the homes over there. you can see the police officer's car, 35-mile-an-hour speed limit sign. this is a neighborhood crawling with deputies and police officers ever since 7:00 this morning. now, first officers on the scene received from the video we shot what appears to have been good information from a homeowner on where the suspect was headed. this witness giving officers a description of where he thought he was, what he was doing, that sort of thing. the full force of south bay law enforcement descended
