paul sr., joining me live from washington, d.c. the rest of the world is looking at washington and saying what is this chaotic crisis to crisis management of of the u.s. government. but in the end, were there winners or losers this evening in d.c.? >> well, i think you know, president obama won. he went into this negotiation saying they were not going to negotiate or do any changes to obama care, and we are going to raise the debt ceiling and extend federal spending. and then we'll have a longer conversation about the budget. that is what happened in the end, so he wins and looks like he is a man of fortitude at this moment. i think the republican party may have lost because they look like they couldn't basically run a two-car train. i mean, it was such a chaotic mess in the house, and the senate republicans were at war with the house republicans and the house republicans were at war with themselves, it did not look like a well managed operation. and i think it is bad for them in the public eye. >> so how is this going to change st

an awful lot of washington would like to change the subject. an awful lot of washington would like to stop focusing on obama care. but you know who hasn't stopped focusing on it? the american people. the reason the house of representatives has stood strong on obama cash is millions of americans said this isn't woring, it's killing jobs, taking away people's health care, it is not working. and that's what we need to stay focused on. >> well, you were kind of a lone voice on that notice, almost delusional sounding, your entire party is now moving on. your entire party is saying the debt ceiling catastrophe that we are on the verge of doing needs to be resolved. you're on record saying you don't even want to deal with the debt ceiling collapse without making obama care a part of that. paul ryan said, let's deal with the debt ceiling. are you saying we could deal with that until we deal with the obama care obsession? >> the whole country understands we have way too much dead. it's got from roughly 10 trillion to nearly 17 trillion. larger than our

well, as the folks here in washington know, you need 60 votes just toned debate. it took 60 votes to implement obama care. i just don't think as long as there's a guy named obama in the white house that you're going get rid of obama care without a veto. so assuming you got the 60 votes, assuming president obama vetoed the bill which he would, you then need 67 votes in the united states senate and 290 votes in the house. so it's just a matter of math. it was a silly strategy from the beginning. and this whole lemming issue came up because one of my colleagues who i was having a direct conversation with decided to leak it outside of the room. and so i walked out. and they asked me about it. so that's how it got out public. >> but you said it, right? i mean, lemmings. >> you think it's bad for the republican party? >> yeah, it's crazy. i don't understand the whole point, the whole strategy. most americans don't understand it. but look. i have supported it. i will support our leadership. because part of this problem in this whole group they refer to, this has been ong
