we also a marijuana tax being implemented in colorado, 25%. marijuana certainly going into the mainstream. >> marijuana on the ballots in a lot of places these days. the colorado thing was interesting. it got a lot of press attention. it was never really a serious, you know, undertaking on their part. because it never would have -- even if it had passed, it wouldn't have gone forward. but what does it say about colorado and whether or not it's becoming more and more blue, as we know it is? but is it bluer than we thought it was? >> it certainly is. we saw president obama win it back in 2008 which was a big victory for him and key to going on and winning the general election. colorado is a state that certain parts are very liberal and many parts conservative. it's indicative of the divide in the country. and when you see certain county trying to secede or put measures on the ballot to allow them to secede, it goes to show you how frustrated people. are. certainly in colorado, they were over gun rights and the cost of energy. a very local issue.

we have the votes coming in from colorado right now. on a tax of marijuana. 65% say yes, 35% say no. that's with 84% of the vote now in also in colorado in weld county and some other rural counties they're deciding whether to take steps to secede and create a 51st state. seen as a measure of public anger at the state's democratic establishment. take a look at the numbers right now. no ahead only 17% of the vote is in 58% to 42%. but so far no is the majority in colorado to secede. john king is here with me. let's talk about virginia right now. it was closer than a lot of us thought it would be but terry mcauliffe wins. >> he ultimately wins despite all this red in the commonwealth of virginia because right up here in the washington, d.c. suburbs. we've talked about this in the past two presidential campaigns and again tonight. the strength of the vote up here in the suburbs. that's where you find the growing latino population, in virginia it's also where you find a lot of college-educated women and single unmarried women. young professi

start out west and look at colorado. currently not seeing too much. it has kind of moved south of their region but higher elevations in arizona and new mexico and southern portions of colorado are still going to be talking about that snow and good amounts of it as the system drops farther south. of course, farther south we will be talking about rain where it's a little bit warmer. let's separate the two here. look at the amounts of snow. almost two feet of snow south of telluride and 1 to 4 inches in new mexico and big bear out towards california looking for about a foot of snow from this system. we know it's really good. you can actually see that low spinning around and this moisture filling into the region so flood warnings likely with the heavy rain into the southwest. south the systems making their way east. notice the cold front not expecting to bring a lot of rain with it. the bulk of the heavier rain farther south but seeing showers into the northeast and only an inch of rain to the north and farther to the south, maybe 2 inches or so but the t

colorado and wyoming talking about a good foot of snow. let's watch those storms make their way across.today, especially in the central part of the country we'll be talking about heavy rain starting, really in through thursday, heavy rains into washington, illinois. behind it comes that cold air. with that, they'll be dealing with rain and behind it, chilly temperatures. let's talk about these temperatures. a good 20 degrees below normal. first you see it, around montana and the dakotas. as we go forward in time, this cold air is going to be diving down. by thursday, notice we're still talking about 23 degrees below normal. highs of just 20s around north platte. notice as we go through friday, this cold air goes through texas, highs just into the 40s for dallas and then as we go through the weekend, this is the cold air that will be making its way across. here into the northeast by friday and saturday, some rain and even highs here into the 30s by sunday. it's kind of that big story making its way across the country. >> indra, thank you so

and in colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal, nearly 70% voted to tax it. now that means this measure will impose a 25% tax to fund schooling construction and law enforcement. one analyst thinks by taxing it that could raise $70 million in extra revenue next year. >> what's the take-away we should get from the effort to legalize marijuana in other states and other municipalities. >> the big picture or the big take-away here is simply that the public opinion on marijuana, it has changed. and it has changed drastically. take a look at the gallup pull from just last month. the majority of americans favor legalizing marijuana. 10% surge in the past year. it's worth noting, when they first took the polling, in 1969, only 12 favored legalization. and of course, as we continue to see legalized marijuana catch on, the states, they're cashing in. a recent study says the u.s. leelg marijuana market is growing faster than smartphone sales. the same report says that this year the u.s. market netted more than $1 billion. and that next year, it could net more than $2 bil
