his administration's declaration of independence from those in trenton, even those investigating the infamous bridge scandal. new jersey state senator robert gordon is the democrat who chairs the oversight committee. and bob ingle is a reporter for "the asbury park press" and the co-author of "chris christie: the inside story of his rise to power." a remarkable story hit the new jersey press today, a local news outlet called nj spotlight ran this report. the christie administration informed senator robert gordon, chairman of the senate legislative oversight committee that it is christie administration policy that no members of the governor's office are allowed to appear before legislative committees. well, in this particular case, it was christie's office stonewalling the state's legislative oversight committee which wanted access to hurricane sandy officials inside the governor's office. but what this means for the state's super committee, which is leading the investigation into the bridge scandal itself is the much bigger question. we reached out to christie's office today and got

let me start tonight with this wild weekend we just saw in trenton. what possessed the christie team to put out a memo trashing the man he, the governor personally appointed to the new york port authority. why did he get so down in the mud to go after the man's behavior back in high school days, yes, high school. if the governor was out to prove himself a bully, this would be, let's face it, the way to go. if he were out to show he knows how to intimidate an adversary, go back to his teen years. show you got stuff on him. show you're ready as hell to get down in the mud with him. that's what governor christie did this weekend in what has all the earmarks of being a desperate effort to save his own skin, the governor is out ripping the bark off his very appointee at the bridge authority. if you only have one public personality to show, governor, let me advise you. why on earth are you showing this one. this thing is getting dirty out there. howard fineman with "the huffington post." and kendall coffey. first of all, he trashes the times. he trashes eve

michael isikoff joins us from trenton. the big news is the federal subpoena. what do we know there? >> reporter: we know that the governor told us that his office had been subpoenaed. we knew the campaign committee had previously been subpoenaed by the u.s. attorney and have the u.s. republican party, this is a pretty serious and thorough investigation by the u.s. attorney. you are right to focus on that time period, another new nuance that emerged last night, christie saying it first came to his consciousness as an issue when he read about the patrick foye e-mail in the wall street journal. that was october 2nd. what christie said last night, this was another sort of new thing, which a lot of people didn't pick up on, when he read that, he called in his chief of staff and chief counsel, then chief counsel charles mckenna and asked them what was going on. it makes it clear now that from that date, october 2nd, this was very much on the governor's radar screen and top staff. remember what was in that patrick foye e-mail. it was pretty serious. it said public safety had been in danger
