right now we are on lehigh street in allentown. we've been seeing salt trucks going up and down for several hours. salt truck drivers started their shift around 8:00 tonight. of course, we talked to a whole lot of folks tonight. they say, "here we go again." what do you think about the snowstorm that is coming? >> march is no good. >> reporter: joe heller has been through a snowstorm or two. he is assaulting his driveway and sidewalk near jefferson in allentown. the 81-year-old tells nbc10 he has no fear about a second major storm on the way. are you scared about this storm at all? >> no. i'm too old to be scared. >> reporter: allentown's 48 trucks hit the street hours before the snow fell tonight. we are told drivers will work 12 hour shifts around the clock until the snow is cleared from streets. >> last friday was not a fun situation. >> reporter: at a nearby gas station, scott gaumer was getting ready for the morning commute, already sick of march weather. close by, another man was focused on tomorrow as well. he was filling hi

you can see it dropping past allentown. and i can tell you from my observation here there's a few wet flakes starting to mix in. we'll get the changeover to snow by midday. and winds really ramp up by lunch hour through the evening hour. that's when the damaging winds combined with blinding snow doesn't necessarily accumulate on the ground, but the visibility will be low. we'll be tracking that throughout the morning, and it's important you stay with us throughout it day because storms like this do throw curve balls, so we'll be on top of those changes each and every hour. >> good storm work by our team of meteorologists. we also have good teammates in our first alert traffic center. >> katey zachary has been monitoring road conditions and a number of crashes this morning. >> i just smiling in response to vai's comment. on a more somber note we do have a lot more issues going on. this is girard avenue where we're seeing traffic slow considerably. this is southbound traffic heading towards center city philadelphia. your driv

blue bell 34, allentown 35, trenton 34. it melts on the roads but when it's snowing real hard and you have wind gusts to 60 miles an hour, you can't see and so it's still dangerous even if the roads are not snow covered. gusts of 53 miles an hour in dover right now. 44 in atlantic city, 43 in philadelphia and in allentown. that is pretty nasty and as we go through the afternoon we see areas of that heavier snow spreading to the south. some of it getting into delaware but delaware will get hit is least compared to other parts of our area. you also notice the temperature not going below freezing. so as soon as the snowfall lightens up you'll see more and more of it melt and then the visibility gets better but it's still windy out there so any snow is going to be blowing around all night and into the morning, not cooling down that much. so we're not going to see everything ice over and the snow is going to be melting wherever it's piling up because temperatures will be in the 40s tomorrow. it's going to be windy. we have wind

not too bad. 17 in pottstown, 17 in allentown. you start to see these winds stepping up. 24 in pottstown. also notice the rain/snow line starting to collapse down to the south. so that's your change over. doesn't mean it'll stick right away, but that means your visibility will be reduced by snowflakes. by lunchtime today the change over to snow all the way to montgomery county right now, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. as you can see 50, 60, 65 miles per hour possible along with blowing snow. the morning commute in many areas, it's do-able. the evening commute will be a real tough one here especially with the strong wind gusts and snow. down at the shore again we have multiple threats going on. this go around we're talking about the rain and the wind. so the rain moves out as you can see here during the morning hours it lightens mup. this is an hour by hour situation. these storms are very dynamic. just be careful here. we may see reduced visibility even down at the shore as we get down to this evening. and we're looking at wi

allentown same thing. berlin and new jersey 39, the actual high with the feels-like temperature of 32 degrees. our satellite radar shot showing us we are seeing lots of clouds here. if we wind out the picture, there's the system. it's still bringing a little bit of snow to boston but it's losing its steam and it's power. hour by hour breakdown shows a little chance of a few snow flurries tomorrow morning and then once again near reading and allentown tomorrow at 1:00. this should be short lived. it's possible we could see more moisture lingering until about 4:00 but it will be very light. the next thing we're watch saying few different hod models track the potential for another nor'easter. this is one model and it shows us with snow here around 230 near philadelphia, parts of south jersey stretching to cape may but then quickly moving aweigh. the next model shows this system moving up as well around 1:30 so it brings it in a bit earlier and shows us with lippingering snow chances through monday evening and

area near allentown and pots town. that heavy snow is still coming down in philadelphia, northeast philly, mount holly, trenton, doylestown and that mix starts to make its way to atlantic city but it's just too warm. we'll continue to see lots of moisture moving through at least through 4:00. but you start to see more pink in there, that means the system is going to start breaking down and pulling away and we'll get warmer air moving in. for a closer look at some of the currents right now, we'll take you there i a few cameras. steve. >> we're seeing conditions deteriorate depending on where you are. so in philadelphia, you're waiting for that wall to arrive and it's right across the river there in new jersey. but take a look at shot i'm about to show you right now out of wilmington. we've been watching that wall of snow come up from south to north and this is what we we are talking about. it's the rate of snow at which will come down once that wall arrives. you can actually watch the vi visibility just drop before our

so look at the 48 in allentown, the 42 in atlantic city. pottstown at 45, reading at 46. this does not support snow. we'll see it begin august rain showers. even though you see snow in williamsport, a lot of this is not hitting the ground unless you see the darker bands of green. we're not seeing it hit the ground yet. it's starting to make its way through the atmosphere. it's evaporating. we sent storm ranger out, because it's -- and some of the moisture aloft. it's a bit of a mix into lancaster county. the temperatures are still too watch. you can see snow making its way, and the cold air is wrapping around the system, and wisconsin, and the main body is making its way up the coast. the rain showers are -- we could see a mix, and the lehigh valley. if you're in pottstown, read yegg doyletown you may be able to so, but if you're in cape may, atlantic city, you'll by looking at rain with a mix. by 9:00 in the morning, that snow line starts to move look at these numbers are we're down to freezing. not in south jersey, but we do get a burst, and you could see a quick snow s

but take a look at allentown, closer to 33 degrees. looks like some of the snow will be the heaviest as we get into our evening hours. that's why the wednesday evening commute is going to be the most concerning for us. closer look at how much snow you can expect to see. with the next system moving through. not a whole lot here at the shore. closer to philadelphia, airplane 5 to 9 inches, up towards allentown, 7 to 12 inches of snowfall. so, this is going to be a powerful system in terms of accumulating snow. but our future wind gusts show this is not going to be as strong as the last system that moved through. so, here are your future wind gusts as you get into 4:30 on wednesday. this is the strongest. 40 miles per hour in philadelphia, wilmington. 41 in wilmington. and the heaviest snow coming down as well. and that is why your wednesday evening commute is going to be the most dangerous of them all. closer look of them, temperatures if you're heading out the door, 30 degrees in philadelphia. only 31 in northeast philly. temperatures i

here's where the rain is coming down if you're closer to lehigh valley and allentown, you're starting to see a bit of this changeover happening as well. this cold air continues to filter in. right now starting to see the rain switching over closer to wilmington. the green is rain. where we start to see the white and even the pink that's more of a mix and the white is snow. throughout your morning hours we are going to continue to see rain coming down. heavier rain expected by 8:00 a.m., but again we're watching for that changeover. and for a closer look of what to expect in your neighborhood we'll send it over to steve sosna. >>> we've seen a lot of changes just in the last couple of hours. when we came into work everybody was raining but now we're starting to see that change to snow. this is live look from the comcast center looking towards the north and west. the visibility has improved dramatically. so the heavy rain threat now is starting to wind down. so we're going into the second and third part of the storm which is the wind and changeover to snow. if you're in the northern and

closer to allentown, accumulating snow where temperatures are cold enough to support it, 32 degrees. and in the suburbs down the shore, still fairly warm. so, we expect to see rain tomorrow for your morning commute. the morning commute is going to be a little easier than what we'll see as we get closer to your lunch hour. take a look at that cold air in place now. so, we have a better chance of accumulating snow by the early afternoon. by the time you get ready to head home from work at 6:00, now we start to see the dark blue. that means heavy snow is coming down for most of the area here. looks like right along the shore, we could be still dealing with rain. parts of the shore not under "first alert," but the rest of the area is. it's not just the snow coming down but the stronger wind speeds in that evening commute. we're tracking wind speeds at 40 miles per hour as you're trying to get home from work. keep all of this mind as you're making your plans for tomorrow. how much will we see, closer to the philadelphia area, 2 to 6 inches, west of philadelphia, 5 to 9, closer to the lehi
