l.a. location, the growth. of course as you know the growth is not always been at the red-hot center of l.a., in fact, time that i write about 1900s, 1930 the growth was really the boondocks as the name the grove and sat in of this was an intercultural area , a guy named arthur fremont gilmore had a dairy farm out here and around the turn of the 20th century he was digging a water well and he struck oil so suddenly they went out in the cow pasture which is kind of a phenomenon you can still see in the area today and started an oil company which he called the gilmore oil company which was pretty successful, but really the area remained agricultural and nothing really happened here until after my time. in the 30s. even the farmers market didn't start until the depression. it was essentially 18 local farmers who paid the gilmore son, his name was earl gilmore, they paid him 50 cents. day to sell produce out of the back of their truck and that was the start of the farmers market. gilmore made

so i had to figure out how to survive in l.a. it takes -- can i crash in your garage for a couple of months until i figure out what am i going to do, and never heard back from him. so just delivering food, people houses and begging for -- delivering food and then looking at someone in the eyes like, i need tip. without saying it. and even though don't say it, need tip. whenever i go out, i feel -- i know why those people wanted tipses because i needed tips and i look at my eyes like -- there's your food, because i'm using any car, using my gas, and i'm bringing you food so you have to give me something, and somebody would and some wouldn't, and when i get a tip, it's like, thank you, and then turn around and start -- curse or something. so mad. and then i about -- it was hustd try, like, try to survive, because i was embarrassed going back to oklahoma or arizona. was like, no, i just -- i have a different mindset. once i want something, just give my all. i just -- i don't care. struggles. i'm going to get it. that's just how i am

here in south l.a. wetlands, there's proof that coyotes use this area because i'm finding coyote scat inside these fences. coyotes are species that most people know live in the l.a. area, but people think that they live in the mountains-- mountainous areas or griffith park, where there's more open space, but really don't think of them as animals able to adapt to this type of landscape. [car alarm beeps] back to the ranger station. yeah, so, we're in griffith park, and here is one right here. this park isis surrounded by freeway, by urbanization, by some major barriers for wildlife. so, we just saw two, maybe 3 coyotes within this picnic area. so, they know that this resource is here on a regular basis. coyotes are doing pretty well in this urban landscape thanks to their adaptability, but the mountain lions are another story. they really need some help if they're going to have a population here for multiple ggenerations to come. i use camera traps, which are motion-activated cameras that have a sensor i

they skipped l.a. and they skipped most of the media centres. san francisco was really the biggest show for them pick it was their biggest show ever. their tour manager was interested in managing the adventures, my band. we were asked to open to support the pistols way to that show. and the nuns were also asked to open the show. it was certainly the biggest crowd that we had ever played to. it was kind of terrifying but it did bring people all the way from vancouver, tee seattle, portland, san diego, all up and down the coast, and l.a., obviously. to san francisco to see this show. there are a lot of people who say that after they saw this show they thought they would start their own band. it was a great jumping off point for a lot of west coast punk. it was also, the pistols' last show. in a way, it was the end of one era of punk and the beginning of a new one. the city of san francisco didn't necessarily support punk rock.
