they will stretch across the carolinas down to south carolina. it weakens as it eventually runs over land, but it is such a slow mover that it takes a wild. places like wilmington couldn't deal with these wins for as much as 60 total hours before all is said and done. pushing that water and creating a storm surge, spots getting up to 8, 9, 10 feet of total storm surge. not just going to beat down on the beach, people who live into some of these inland waterways are also going to be dealing with the storm surge. for one, there's nowhere for it to go. we forecasted storm surges getting up to 10 feet in some of these inland waterways, also. this pushes well inland on top of all of this era because we have been talking about the slow movement of this, taking from this morning to tomorrow night to saturday, a very small amount of movement. with that continuing to pick up a whole lot of moisture, the rain will keep falling. with the storm surge as well as the rain, the flooding is definitely going to be a problem. here's where we are sitting now on top

let's go to north carolina now to carolina island. again, up the shore here where kerry sanders is standing by. what is the situation on carolina island? >> here in carolina beach, first of all, we have pounding surf. the wind is continuing. just to remind people we we had the eye pass over us when it was a hurricane. the thing is, this is unrelenting. it is not giving up. we're at low tide right now. i'm going to step out and let you take a look at the atlantic ocean that is still pounding the beach here. as it's pounding the beach at low tide, traditionally we would have at least 25 yards of sand between the sand dunes and the atlantic. but it's right up there right to the sand dunes. the sand dunes, that natural barrier that protect the area but, of course, it's low tide. let me take you up the beach. if you take a look at some video here, you can see not only flooding, but on the northern portion of carolina beach, there is a pier there. well, this pounding surf took out what the chamber of commerce says is about 70% of that pier.
