san francisco's annual transgender awareness month to help raise the awareness of san francisco's transgender communities. we have the opportunity today to celebrate the contributions of extraordinary trans san franciscans through today's first ever board of supervisors transawareness month special commendations. now to be honest, it should not have taken us this long. 53 years ago, a group of trans women and drag queens led one of the first documents lgbt up risings. we now have the country's first ever transgender cultural district located in supervisor haney's district which encompassed the site of the riots and other locations. 23 transgender people have lost their lives to antitrans violence this year. most were black transgender women. even in the face of tremendous inequities, discrimination, and violence, however, trans communities resilient. in san francisco, numerous communities have won numerous awards and rights. in 2014, thanks to the leadership of the transcommunity, san francisco became the first city to offer publicly funded transition related surgery access which continues to

i think there was one arrest by san francisco p.d. officers during that period, but basically that was our role and duty. >> thank you chiefs. sheriff's department. >> thank you mary ellen. the sheriff's department had our field operations division converted to a 12 hour shift plan. at the kincaid fire, we deployed nine operational periods of 12 hours each, 24 hours a day. the department ended up deploying 190 sworn staff for mutual aid, much of the same way as the police department did. we had a number of various assignments, ranging from patrol of the effected areas. we assisted in road closures. we secured areas under evacuation orders. we checked on businesses, escorted residents into areas closed off to the general public and patrolled the area near the safari zoo. we also were part of the evacuation shelter that was set up at saint mary's cathedral for five days, and we had deputies assigned there for nine operational periods. thank you. >> thanks to everybody, including d.m. staff who deployed. we always bring back very importa

this is a san francisco day. i was thinking of how to start my thoughts, and maybe i would start with the following which is i am going to be short because he was and i am. thank you all for being a part of the community of san francisco and so many of the community leaders who led to this day, to this wonderful naming dedication. of course we want to salute anita and your family for your family, your sacrifice, and your love. all of us have countless memories of the mayor, and i'm going to relay just a few quick ones. it was exactly ten years ago to the day that i was in this international terminal with then-supervisor chu and mar. the three of us were the first chinese supervisors to serve together. we were heading on a good-will trip to southern china. we were joined by members of the chinese chamber, some of who are here. what was historic about that event for me ten years later is that we were joined by one incredibly competent, selfless, humble, and smiling city administrator, ed lee. i remember on that tri
