mostly 60s in san francisco. our north bay highs will reach up to 82 degrees at ukiah and in santa rosa a high of 76. as we make plans for halloween if you're going to be anywhere around the bay or inland areas expect temperatures during the middle of the day at about 80 degrees. i think we'll sit on the patio and decorate pumpkins. later on in the evening maybe a movie on the back patio. it will be in the mid-60s and cooling off quickly, so make sure you're dressed nice and warm. i want to show you places where maybe you can drive, take a little road trip this weekend and check out beautiful fall colors. right now the peak fall colors are up to about 6,000, 7,000 feet. where you see the orange and red leaves indicates where we are seeing the best in the fall colors around the sierra. once again a little bit of a drive can give you some very picturesque pictures for our families and maybe even some of the scenery there. as we get a look at some areas around lake tahoe and as well as yosemite, mammoth lake we are

a cool sort of cloudy evening in san francisco. so let's look at the current temperatures right now. 53 degrees in san francisco. 56 in oakland. chilly 40s in livermore. 46 degrees and we will be seeing temperatures in the 70s for this afternoon in terms of your daytime highs. but let's get to the red flag warnings that we're keeping a close eye on for tomorrow. i want to explain to you the timing of the winds and who's going to be seeing the initial winds. so the first red flag warning goes in to effect at 11:00 a.m. because we'll start to notice the gusting winds in the north bay mountains. however, fast forward the time line and the models are showing the winds begin to pick up not just in the north bay mountains and east bay hills but throughout the majority of the bay area. so the entire bay area will be under a red flag warning. we have sort of overlapping red flag warnings because of the winds. keep in mind, that the north bay mountains will remain under a high fire danger threat for today and including the santa cruz mounta

. >> "today in the bay" cierra johnson live in san francisco. cierra, the fbi says an imminent threat. >> good morning. yes, the imminent threat in the midst of a pandemic within the last 24 hours that statement was released essentially a heads up for health care and hospital providers. so far five u.s. hospitals have already experienced cyber attacks. it targets hospital datas and scrambles it forcing users to have a key to unlock it. that key is only obtained after the users pay the ransom and hence the name ransomware. that company operates more than 250 hospitals across the nation with 90,000 employees and one of those hospitals is right here in fremont. some of those locations, the u.s. locations were forced to rely on paper backup systems and have longer emergency room rates during their attacks in september. and just to give you an idea of how common these attacks are, in 2019, there were 750 health care providers, health care systems that were victimized by these attacks. so that joint statement sent out by the fbi and some of those cybe

san francisco will stay in the 60s. you can see how much warmer it will be as you go down the peninsula and down to cooper tite cupertino with some 90s in the east bay. then as we go into the evening shortly before sunset we're going to see a nice cooldown dropping back to the 70s for much of the bay and then tonight we'll cool it off once again as that fog may extend farther inland. as we look at our five-day forecast for air quality, that's, of course, been a big question on everyone's minds. should i go outside for a long walk with this air quality? in the north bay the answer is no because we're still looking at some thick smoke lingering over the north bay, the inland east bay is where we also see that smoke going but elsewhere we are seeing some improving air quality. and then as we go to the end of the week we'll be watching a couple weather systems. one is the weakening of a tropical system that was marie that could get drawn into an area of low pressure and enhance our chance of rain for the weekend starting fr

san francisco mostly in the 60s today. as you go down the peninsula we're seeing high temperatures mostly in the mid-80s and up to about 83 degrees during the middle of the afternoon in the south bay. it dvening it's going to start to improve. now the other issue with going for a walk, of course, is the air quality and so we've seen at times the most unhealthy air quality in the north bay near the area of the glass fire. we'll see that continuing but it's been drifting into the east bay for some of the other areas like the bay and the coast as well as far as the south bay down to santa clara valley. it has been improving and we're watching out for a chance of rain as we head to the end of the week. more on that coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking now for the commute? >>> not bad, kari, butssarily j. as we look at the big view mostly green sensors. a lot of yellow highlighting where we will have more significant fog influence. out to the altamont pass, we're talking about 580. so far looks typical. the altam

sun rises here over downtown san francisco. you see the fog across the inner bay, but also the sort of brown smoke-filter tint there as well as the smoke continues to drop in out of the north bay. and you saw the view there in walnut creek, 59 degrees. red sunrise over the inland portions of contra costa county at 59 degrees and into san jose, there's another red sunrise. look at that, 62 in san jose. where the smoke will be at its worst, areas south of san jose, also the tri-valley, inland east bay, and obviously into the north bay, closer to where the glass fire's burning. these are all locations that will likely stay at 150 and higher. that's the unhealthy range on b, the bay and coast may see numbers come down a bit as we head towards tomorrow. so let's take a look at the outlook here. this is a smoke model, the hrrr model that incorporates wind speed and direction. so, you'll notice through the day today, there's a lot of red on the map. as we head into late today and into tomorrow morning, we're thinking that the sea bree

"the examiner" reports that supervisors will vote on a new health insurance plan for irk withers at sfo. require airlines to expand insurance to all workers and their families at no cost during the pandemic. airlines will otherwise have to pay nearly $10 more per hour for each employee they don't cover. this is part of an external health plan. the struggling airlines oppose both options saying it will cost them more than $120 million annually. >>> for the duration of the outbreak, older californians will now be able to skip a trip to the dmv if they have to get their license renewed. that's thanks to an executive order signed yesterday by governor newsom allowing them to renew by mail instead. the order applies to people over 70. around 860,000 seniors every year have to apply in person for updated licenses. the new order will stay in effect until the state of emergency is lifted. >>> so avoiding a trip to the dmv, that sounds like a perfect day for a lot of folks. >> i was going to

still pretty windy especially in san francisco as well with a high of 73 degrees expected today and 77 today in napa. wind gusts still kicking up, and we've seen really high wind gusts as this red flag warning continues through tomorrow morning because we're still looking at breezy winds and low humidity so that will be for the north bay up until tomorrow morning. and then we're looking at the high wind event for all of the bay area except for the immediate coastline in the north bay. so we'll continue to watch that in the forecast. more coming up. mike, how is it looking for the morning commute? >>> well, kari, on the chp report it looks like nothing has changed. on the speed sensors behind me we'll show you full screen the crash in sunol looked like it might be at least clearing mostly from the roadway. westbound 84 the speeds are improving here. you notice above where it has the sign we have stanley boulevard, your cutthrough to 680. the dublin interchange shows more slowing as well. more traffic may have shifted. not a big deal. the bay bridge toll plaza is the other real slowdown.

"examiner" reporting that san francisco schools won't resume hybrid until mid january at the earliest. alameda county yesterday gave the green light to public schools to return in mid november but most districts are saying realistically that will not be possible, especially for secondary schools. >>> and santa cruz businesses and santa cruz county just received a big leg up. this is after the state moved the county into the state's less restrictive orange tier this week. those in san mateo, contra costa and marin county like the gyms and wineries officially expanded their capacity to 25%. retail stores and indoor malls and libraries and offices can operate full capacity. >>> well, marcus, one industry not bouncing back just yet are hotels. now the "mercury news" reports some of the bay area are starting to feel the weight of the pandemic. experts are signaling out five high-end hotels now in financial distress. according to recent disclosures obtained they include club quarters hotel in san francisco and embarcadero center and two hyatt houses in pleasanton. companies did not respond
