we have all of our task forces from throughout florida mobilized for the first time in florida history outside of a hurricane context. we have people from international like israel. they've been on the pile. they've been helping out. the outpouring has been incredible. what i told the families, everything that could be done is done and being done. we should never just give up hope and we will identify people one way or another. obviously a catastrophic collapse. there's a heck of a lot of people that are fighting for them and working hard. you know, martha, one of the things that makes this so difficult is that someone is asleep in their bed at night. that's not when you think you'll have something like this happen. this wasn't a hurricane. this wasn't sabotage. so i think the shock has been incredible. so the dread that the families have had to live with because they didn't know. we know the building is done and they're waiting. they want good news or they want any news. it's just not that simple as you said, given the wreckage and given how difficult it is. i can tell you this. havin

ron allen is in south florida. ron, any details as to, first of all, investigation and also what hopes they have for recovery? >> reporter: andrea, these briefings, as you've heard over the past number of days are all about the first responders and the valiant efforts that they're making which undoubtedly are heroic. that's what the governor and the mayor are focusing on. they pointed out they briefed the families privately and they're doing that twice a day and they just talked to the families about this, as well. we don't know what they're telling the fa amlies if anything, beyond what they're sharing with us, the general public. there are no new numbers and no new information about fatalities and discoveries to report and that's the interesting and striking thing about the way, and the approach that these officials here are taking to this tragedy. this is day six. the last survivor was pulled from the rubble hours after this happened on thursday. it's been a long time and there is this void of information about

wolf, back to you in florida. >>> thank you, pamela. at any moment we'll get an update from authorities in surfside, florida. they'll hold a news conference to give us the latest information as the search and rescue efforts here in south florida are growing more urgent by the hour. the numbers tonight remain the same. four people are confirmed dead, at least 159 people are still unaccounted for. vigils are being held for the victims. but three days into this disaster, hope is turning to anger as people wait and wait and wait for any information at all about their missing loved ones. today we learned, for example, that an engineer back in 2018 warned of major structural damage in parts of the building. concerns are now being raised about the condo's sister building right down the street. surfside's mayor is recommending that those residents evacuate out of an abundance of caution. let's discuss with david paulson who has unique perspectives on the challenges faced by the heroic rescue crews. he's a former fema director and fire chief for
